Just venting a little. Not here to argue or cause any harm.
However, we often hear there are NO Homeless in Brunswick County...Yet we know that is an untruth. I can only speak for Streetreach, which receives referrals & calls every week for emergency shelter. We are boots on the ground & see it.
Then we hear about the hundreds of children documented through the McKinney Veto program as homeless in the schools, what are the government funds spent on ...where are the kids sleeping? Couch surfing? Vehicles? Motels? That's a lot of kids needing permanent housing.
Then you see articles stating a certain non-profit provides over 500-600 individuals with emergency shelter in our county annually, yet there's no homeless issue and the calls keep coming in to Streetreach, ...With NO permanant shelter in County where are these individuals being housed? And if it's true 500-600 individuals are being given motel vouchers...wouldn't that bè a homeless issue? Shouldn't the monies bè spent in a more productive manner?
When agencies—whether government bodies, or non-profit entities—falsify, inflate, or suppress data, the consequences are widespread and severe. When everyone's numbers differ sò greatly...there's obviously something wrong.
Do we need a shelter or don't we? If there's no homeless issue in county as many officials claim ...why are grants being given to several agencies? Is it to just look pro-active? Is it to not get involved or pass on the responsibility?
Agencies lying about numbers to receive grants severely damages public trust, corrupts decision-making, and creates systemic Governments and businesses allocating budgets based on numbers. False data causes funding to flow to the wrong projects, wrong groups,lost investments, leaving critical areas starved of resources. Wasted capital: Venture capitalists and taxpayers pour money into initiatives that appear successful on paper but are deceptive in reality.
I just had to vent today!!! I have witnessed this injustice for years and frustrated because the agencies, churches and individuals that give & give are often overlooked...but God sees their hearts!
I am so grateful that Streetreach can honestly say we do not receive any type of government assistance or grants, that we have no paid staff, that God has & is our provider. God has always made a way for us to help others. Every neighbor that reaches out to our unhoused neighbors does it out of compassion and love.
And there is no words to thank you. What a beautiful thing!
