As we begin a new week, we remain focused on what matters most: service, community, and showing up for the people of New Hanover and Pender Counties.

Judge James H. Faison, III has built his career around listening, serving, and treating people with fairness and respect.

This campaign is about more than an election. It is about trust, experience, and continued commitment to the community.

Years ago, my daughter, Christa Faison Colvin , shared her passion for music, education, and service through her journey at UNCW.

Her story is a reminder that legacy is not only carried through titles or positions. It is carried through purpose, faith, education, and the willingness to pour into the next generation.

A great evening at the Greater Wilmington Sports Hall of Fame Dinner celebrating excellence, leadership, and the lasting impact of sports in our community.

It was an honor to spend time and get a picture with Tamera Ty Young and Coach Fred Lynch, and to celebrate individuals whose commitment continues to inspire others across the Wilmington area.

To Bill Curry (surfing), Ron Musselman (baseball), and Ed Wilson (youth coaching); although I didn't get a picture with us together the feeling is mutual.

I want to take the time to welcome the class of 2026 to our prestigious sports hall of fame.

Sports teach lessons that last far beyond the game: discipline, teamwork, resilience, accountability, preparation, and service.

Congratulations to all who were recognized and thank you to everyone who continues to invest in athletes, coaches, families, and the next generation.

This Memorial Day, I am also reflecting on the life and legacy of my father, 𝗝𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗛. 𝗙𝗮𝗶𝘀𝗼𝗻, 𝗝𝗿.

After graduating from 𝗪𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗻 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 in 1946, he enlisted in the 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗔𝗿𝗺𝘆 and served in Japan under General Douglas MacArthur. He later attended 𝗔&𝗧 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗲, 𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗡𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗵 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗮 𝗔&𝗧 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆, where he continued his service through Army ROTC and was honorably discharged as a 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝗟𝗶𝗲𝘂𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗮𝗻𝘁.

My father’s life taught me the importance of faith, discipline, education, patriotism, and service to others.

His example continues to shape the values I carry with me today.

| This Memorial Day, we honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation. We remember their courage, reflect on their legacy, and remain grateful for the freedoms their sacrifice helped protect.

NOTE: In observance of Memorial Day, North Carolina Central University will be closed Monday, May 25. University operations will resume Tuesday, May 26.

Their courage, sacrifice, and devotion should never be forgotten.
