Today SSBFD responded to a call for a structure fire. Our Rescue and tower truck responded together. MIGC FD and HCFR responded as well for assistance. The Rescue arrived first and gave a size up of a 3 story residential with a fire on the exterior deck that appeared out.

MIGC responded with a medic unit, Engine and A battalion chief. HCFR was not on seen and returned to service crews pulled the exterior wood off trim for the post and ensured there was no extension to the post. It was wet down to ensure extinguishment. A great effort by all.

During this call SSBFD received a second call for a distressed swimmer in the ocean. Volunteers manning the station responded with a medic unit from HCFR.

It is imperative that our fire department be able to assist our neighboring departments as they assist us in our need. Time is of the essence in an emergency.

The Horry Georgetown Fire Chiefs’ Association is proud to announce our first annual first responder scholarship award. We will be awarding two $1,000.00 scholarships. This scholarship can be used for advanced EMT, Paramedic, or college courses associated in public safety. Details are in the attached image.

Our condolences to our brothers and sister in North Myrtle Beach fire department as well as the family of Chief Barstow.

It is with a heavy heart that we share the news regarding the passing of Retired Fire Chief Tom Barstow earlier Monday afternoon following a hospitalization over the weekend during his continued bout with cancer.

Chief Barstow worked for the City of North Myrtle Beach from 1980-2015 promoting through the ranks until his appointment as Fire Chief and Emergency Preparedness Director in 1996, where he served until his retirement in February 2015.

The City of North Myrtle Beach is forever indebted to Chief Barstow and his service to our Department and City.

We ask that you join us in keeping his family in our thoughts and prayers.

Today, we honor the courageous men and women of our armed forces who have made the ultimate sacrifice for the freedom and safety we have today. God bless them for their sacrifices over the past 250 years.

The Surfside Beach Fire Department along with Safe Kids P*e Dee/Coastal will be hosting a FREE child car seat check event on June 6th from 10am to noon. Come on out to have your car seat checked and make sure your child is safely riding in your car. Thank you to Walmart Neighborhood Market Surfside and Ocean Lakes Family Campground for their support in protecting our community and hosting the event. Town of Surfside Beach
