Celebrating Service, Dedication & Our Surry County Team 💙💛

Today, Surry County Government came together for our 2026 Employee Service Awards Celebration, recognizing the dedicated employees who help serve our community each and every day.

During the celebration, employees reaching 5, 10, 15, and 20+ years of service were recognized for their commitment and years of dedicated service to Surry County. The event was also an opportunity to celebrate all County employees and thank them for the hard work, professionalism, and contributions they bring to Surry County throughout the year.

We were pleased to have County Administrator David Harrison, Board of Supervisors Vice Chair Walter Hardy, and Supervisor Dr. Robert Elliott join employees for the celebration and help recognize these important milestones.

To our service award recipients, congratulations on your achievements — and to all Surry County employees, thank you for everything you do to keep our County moving forward and serve our citizens each day.

The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for Surry County from 11 AM today through 8 PM Thursday. Heat index values of 105-108 F are expected.

Stay hydrated, limit strenuous outdoor activity, and seek air conditioning when possible. Check on children, older adults, pets, and others vulnerable to extreme heat. Never leave children or pets unattended in a vehicle.

Call 911 for heat-related emergencies.

🎶 Reliving a Great Night of Live Music in Surry County! 🎶

We’re looking back at our August First Fridays concert featuring Forte Jazz Band Smithfield, Virginia at the Surry County Pavilion! 🎷🎶

A big thank you to Forte Jazz Band for a fantastic performance and to everyone who came out to enjoy an evening of live music, community and summer fun. Check out some of the highlights from the night in our recap video! 💙

Isolated thunderstorms are possible late today and tomorrow afternoon. Storm chances increase Thursday night into Friday as a cold front drops through the area. Chances for severe weather is highest Thursday and Friday with low chances today and tomorrow."

Meet Cora and Nora! These two sweet girls were brought to us as a pair as strays. They are the same age, so we are thinking they have to be litter mates. While these two aren’t a bonded pair, they absolutely can be adopted together! If you are interested in either of these girls, give us a call at the shelter!

📢 Community Update from Surry County Emergency Management 📢

We are excited to announce our new partnership with the Hampton Roads Metropolitan Medical Response System (HRMMRS) to strengthen our community’s emergency response capabilities!
🤝🚑

Through this collaboration, we now have access to the Disaster Medical Support Unit (DMSU). This vital resource will augment and enhance our response during large-scale incidents that require extended personnel, specialized equipment, and prolonged on-scene support.

We are constantly working to ensure Surry County is prepared, resilient, and equipped to keep you safe.
