đźš‘ Happy EMS Week! đźš‘

This year’s theme, “Improving Outcomes Together,” fits our crew perfectly.

I want to take a minute to recognize and thank every member of Sutherland EMS. We have built a culture where people are willing to learn, ask questions, accept new information, and use real clinical judgment to provide the best patient care possible. That is not something every service has, and it is something all of you should be proud of.

I brag about our EMS crew everywhere I go because we have earned that reputation. The growth this department has seen, the teamwork on scenes, the willingness to train, and the dedication to our patients does not happen just because the tones go off. It happens because of the people on this team that give up family time, work hours, and personal freedom.

Whether it’s a critical call, a lift assist at 3 AM, training nights, covering standbys, or helping each other after tough calls, this crew continues to show what good EMS looks like in a rural community.

Thank you for the support of our Rural board, medical director, and the community.

SFR paged to Mutual Aid Arthur/McPherson counties for a grass fire. Crews responded to the area of Hwy 92 and Diamond Bar Road. SFR responded with (2) type 6 engines, 1 Command. As the fire quickly jumped Hwy 92 a command post was set up at our station to help coordinate inbound mutual aid crews as well as coordinate EMS crews should they be needed. All our units and crew were released from scene at approx. 22:00 hrs and returned to the station. Command post was turned back over to KL ICP at approx. 00:00 hrs.

We thank all of you for your support and prayers during this busy time.

Sutherland Fire Hall is currently serving as a command center for the Arthur County Complex Fire. Please be mindful of the area as there may be increased traffic and emergency vehicles through town.

16:40 SFR was paged with a mutual aid request by Tryon for multiple grass fires caused by dry lightnining. We sent (2) type 6 engines and a tactical tender. Crews returned to station at approx. 22:30.

23:31 SFR was paged with a mutual request by Mullen for multiple fires again caused by dry lightning. We responded with (2) type 6 engines and a Tactical Tender. Crews were canceled en-route due to rain falling in the area and returned to station.

Its dry folks be very careful with anything that could cause a fire, If a fire starts call 911 right away so that we can get help coming.

April’s monthly training consisted of extrication training!
Thank you Chris Rich-MacQueen for your time and knowledge on this topic. We appreciate you teaching us all about quality extrication so that we can efficiently and safely remove patients from vehicles.

While we are grateful for the moisture we did receive, it was not sufficient. Fuel loads are still very heavy. Grasses are still dry, and wind is forecasted over the next few days. Sutherland Fire District will NOT be issuing any burn permits, nor is open burning of any kind recommended. Please continue to use caution. We are not out of the woods for critical fire weather. Thank you for understanding and the support to our department.

Over the past few months we have been working through the process of updating our Dive Boat. The previous boat had been in service for twenty-six years. With the help of Mid-Nebraska Community Foundation we were able to get the new boat and trailer in service for the upcoming season. We appreciate their support to our area!

To everyone who supported our department during the recent massive fires: Thank You!

We are deeply grateful to the many businesses that stepped up with equipment, supplies, manpower, and logistical support. Below is a list of the businesses that supported fire departments during this time. Your willingness to act quickly and stand alongside us made a real difference in our ability to protect lives, property, and our community.

We also want to sincerely thank the individuals and families who provided monetary donations, food, water, encouragement, and countless other acts of kindness. Your generosity sustained our crews through long, difficult days and nights.

These fires tested our communities in ways we hope to never experience again, but they also revealed the strength, compassion, and unity that define this area. We truly could not have done it without you.

From all of us at Sutherland Fire & Rescue, thank you for standing with us!

All of us from Sutherland Fire & Rescue would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas! Have a safe and happy holiday!
