This year, Sutton Public Schools proudly participated in the Special Olympics for the very first time!
For our students, this was so much more than a sporting event. It was an opportunity to demonstrate courage, determination, resilience, and joy. Watching our athletes step onto the field with confidence and pride was a moment many of us will never forget. Months of hard work and perseverance came together, and our athletes shined in every way possible.
As they crossed finish lines, celebrated with teammates, made new friends, and proudly received their medals and ribbons, there were many tears in our eyes. Tears of pride. Tears of joy. Tears from witnessing students accomplish goals they had worked so hard to achieve. Their courage and happiness reminded us all of what truly matters. The smiles on their faces will last in my mind forever!
The Special Olympics embodies the values we strive to teach every day: acceptance, inclusion, perseverance, kindness, and respect. Our students showed that success is not measured only by medals (which they all truly did love ! đ€©) or scores, but by the willingness to TRY, support one another, and celebrate every achievement along the way.
As we celebrate this achievement, we are reminded of the power of inclusion and the importance of ensuring every student has the opportunity to shine. Yesterday was not just about competitionâit was about belonging.â„ïž
We are excited to continue our involvement in future Special Olympics events and many more. I know there were many of you who wanted to be there yesterday, so looking ahead, my goal for 2027 is to host Sutton's very first Special Olympics event at home so even more students, families, and community members can be part of this incredible experience.
Thank you, Sutton, for supporting opportunities that allow every student to be seen, valued, and celebrated. We could not be prouder of our athletes and the example they have set for our entire community.
Yesterday, our athletes didn't just represent Suttonâthey showed us all what courage, determination, and inclusion truly look like.
