Today's the day.

Native Plant Sale pickup is happening today, and we'll also have a selection of individual native plants available for purchase while supplies last.

Whether you're picking up a pre-ordered garden kit or simply looking for a few plants to bring home, we'd love to see you.

Native plants have a way of changing a place over time.

A shoreline becomes more resilient.
A wet corner becomes a garden.
A few flowers become habitat.

You don't have to transform your entire landscape this season.

Just start with one space.

We'll help with the rest.

The deadline to order native plant kits is May 15.

After that, the season keeps moving.

The shoreline still needs holding together.
The wet corner still waits for the right plants.
Pollinators will keep looking for habitat wherever they can find it.

This is your last call to start something that belongs here.

Whether it’s one small garden bed, a stretch of shoreline, or the edge of the woods behind your house—native plants have a way of changing how a place feels over time. Quieter. Healthier. More alive.

We’ve made it simple to begin.

Choose the space.
Choose the kit.
We’ll help with the rest.

Order by May 15.

Start where you are. Grow what belongs.

Most people don’t start because they’re not sure where to begin.

Too much choice.
Too many variables.
Not enough time to figure it all out.

So we tried to make it simpler.

Instead of asking you to design a garden from scratch, we’re offering a set of starting points—built for the kinds of places we all have:

A wet patch that never quite dries.
A strip along the shoreline.
A shaded edge where grass won’t take.
A sunny space that could be doing more.

Each kit is a small decision that leads somewhere good.

You don’t have to do everything.
Just start with one space.

Not sure where to start with native plants?

We’ve taken the guesswork out of it.

Our garden kits are designed for real places—wet areas, shady yards, shorelines—and built with plants that belong here in Northern Michigan.

Start small. Plant something that matters.

Hello and Happy (on a Thursday 😁). Ellie here to give an update on some events that have happened in August. Please enjoy:

🌱Pics 1-5: FAP Camp in da UP! District foresters across the state gathered together to share our expertise and experience and welcomed new foresters into their roles.

🌱Pics 6, 9, 10: Max hosted a ATFS Forestry Field Day with Richard Cooper, consulting forester, at one of his properties down in Benzie. This ecologically-rich parcel (there's even a bog with sundews!) was awesome to explore with our engaged landowners.

🌱Pics 7 and 8: Botanizing hike with at their Perch Lake property in Kalkaska to help boost their species inventory. Another nice hot day that also involved exploring a bog. 😁

Enjoy the dog (bog?) days of August! ā˜€ļøšŸŒ²šŸŒ³

Hi everyone and happy !

It’s hard to believe but it’s already my last day here at the district, this summer has flown by!

Over the course of the summer I’ve gone on 72 site visits, led portions of multiple hikes, created a tree inventory map, and even planned my own event!

I’ve learned so much over the summer and I just want to say thank you to everyone that has supported me and helped me to excel in this role!

Hi everyone and happy !

We want to thank everyone who was able to come out to our Sustainable Forest Management Field Day that we hosted in partnership with the American Tree Farm System!!

Despite the heat, we hope you all had a good time and learned something from our hosting landowner and forester, Richard Cooper, and his history managing his land.

It was great to see everyone and if you couldn’t make it to this event, we hope to see you next time!
