Graduation season is upon us once again, and this year we have three graduates we would like to recognize and congratulate for a job well done. Their hard work, dedication, and perseverance throughout the years have truly paid off.

Graduation is always a special occasion, but it becomes even more meaningful when we get to celebrate the children and family members of our firefighters reaching such an important milestone.

Yesterday at approximately 1200 hours, the Swainsboro Fire Department responded to a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Tiger Trail and South Main Street involving a school bus and a pickup truck pulling a trailer.

Fire personnel, law enforcement, EMS, and school officials arrived on scene within minutes and immediately began checking all occupants involved for injuries. Thankfully, no injuries were reported from anyone on the school bus or in the pickup truck.

We are grateful for a safe outcome and appreciate the quick response and teamwork from all agencies involved.

Stay safe, Swainsboro.

Last week, our two newest recruits preparing to attend GPSTC had the opportunity to face one of the biggest challenges many firefighters encounter early on, overcoming a fear of heights.

A long-standing tradition at the Swainsboro Fire Department allows new hires to climb to the top of our 75-foot aerial ladder, secure themselves with a ladder belt, and lean back while trusting in the equipment and their training.

This is not intended as hazing or a requirement for employment. Instead, it serves as an important confidence-building exercise designed to help recruits develop trust in the equipment they will one day depend on in the field.

Both recruits performed exceptionally well, and we are proud of the determination and professionalism they demonstrated throughout the experience. We look forward to continuing to share updates on their journey with you all as they work toward becoming certified firefighters.

Stay Safe, Swainsboro!

🚨 Burn Ban Lifted – But Safety Still Comes First 🚨

Good news, Emanuel County — the burn ban has officially been lifted. However, that does NOT mean conditions are risk-free.

We are still experiencing dry conditions, and it won’t take much for a small fire to get out of control. If you choose to burn, please do so responsibly:

🔥 Always have a water source nearby
🔥 Never leave your fire unattended
🔥 Keep your burn pile small and manageable
🔥 Avoid burning on windy days
🔥 Make sure your fire is completely extinguished before leaving

Remember — just because you can burn doesn’t always mean you should. One careless moment can quickly turn into an emergency.

Let’s work together to keep Swainsboro and Emanuel County safe. If you see a fire getting out of control, call 911 immediately.

– Stay safe, Swainsboro!

🚨 DISCUSSION QUESTION ANSWER 🚨

Yesterday evening, we shared two photos and asked you all to decide whether they were taken from a real fire scene or not.

Over 90% of the responses said one or both were real. About 10% said neither were.

Here’s the answer: Neither photo was real. Both were generated using AI.

Here’s why we brought this up—yesterday at 1700 hours, we responded to a reported structure fire. An elderly caller advised that younger children had told her a house was on fire and even sent her a picture as proof.

When crews arrived, there was no fire and no smoke. After investigating, it was determined the image had been created using an AI app as a joke.

We’ll be the first to say—we enjoy a good joke. But this is not one of them.

This incident resulted in:
• 3 fire trucks
• 3 police officers
• 1 ambulance
• Multiple volunteers

—all responding to an emergency that did not exist.

This not only ties up critical resources but also delays response to real emergencies where help is truly needed.

Parents, please stay aware of what your children are doing on their phones. AI technology is powerful, and when misused, it can lead to serious consequences.

Misuse of 911 is a chargeable offense and will be enforced by local law enforcement.

The photos we posted were created to show just how realistic AI-generated images can be.

Stay safe, Swainsboro.

🚨 DISCUSSION QUESTION OF THE DAY 🚨

We need your participation on this one!

One OR both of these pictures were taken from a Fire Camera (Camera that is specifically design to fit to a firefighters helmet and withstand conditions to record footage of emergency scenes)

Please comment below if you think one, both, or none of these pictures were taken from a Fire Camera at an emergency scene we’ve responded too.

A follow up post will be done later this evening or in the morning to give you all the correct answer and explain the meaning of this discussion.

Today, fire personnel were getting better training on our new Engine 1 that we took delivery of and put into service last week.

This engine is equipped with state of the art firefighting equipment that is designed to assist us in assisting the citizens.

It is vital that we know how to properly use the equipment to its full potential.

Stay safe, Swainsboro!

Recruits are now into their 3rd week of getting prepared to tackle Firefighter 1 at GPSTC in July.

They’ve now moved into morning PT in full gear. This is all to prepare them for their class date which will test them mentally and physically, but we will have them more than prepared.
