Planning for Swampscott 2025 ended in June, but did you know some of the recommendations have already been implemented since? New bike lanes along Humphrey Street as part of its repaving and reuse of the former Machon School into affordable senior housing are just two examples. Updates will no longer be posted on this page but you can always follow Swampscott 2025's progress at bit.ly/planSWAMPSCOTT or follow on Twitter

On May 9, 2016, the Swampscott Planning Board voted to approve and adopt Swampscott 2025: The Master Plan. The Plan is a statement of Swampscott's citizens' vision for the town's future, with goals, strategies, and actions that will serve as the framework to achieve that vision over the next 10 to 15 years. With the adoption of this Plan, the Town will have more control over its future land use patterns. Thank you to everyone who participated at our public forums in person and online!

A key finding in the master plan: Swampscott is mostly built out – only approximately 1% of town land is developable. Fiscal stability of the Town will be dependable on revenue from new growth, which will be achieved through development of undervalued properties. The Swampscott 2025: The Master Plan Vision Statement is now available to read on the project website!

The Swampscott 2025: The Master Plan Vision Statement will guide the planning process over the next several months.The purpose of the statement is to present a vision for Swampscott in 2025 – one that reflects the community’s character, its values, and aspirations for its future.

The vision was developed with direct input from the community - many residents submitted personal vision statements - public and online forum participation, and from the Swampscott Master Plan Committee.
