This nonprofit organization was formed 2010 to protect, preserve and sustain Hyde County’s old courthouse which is listed in the National Register of Historic places. The building has been unoccupied since Hurricane Isabel in 2003. Further study of the history of the courthouse revealed that it was actually built in 1838. The National Register of Historic Places is the official list of the Nation's historic places worthy of preservation. Authorized by the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, the National Park Service's National Register of Historic Places is part of a national program to coordinate and support public and private efforts to identify, evaluate, and protect America's historic and archeological resources. Hyde County has 11 such properties.

Several Hyde County sites including Mattamuskeet Lodge and Historic Ocracoke used to be on the Historic Albemarle Tour. Founded in 1975, this is one of North Carolina’s oldest heritage trails, covering 17 northeast NC counties. The familiar brown and ivory roadside signs mark the highways and sites across the region and can still be seen in the county.
