The town of Swansboro Fire Department is hiring the position of: Firefighter

The Swansboro Fire Department is a combination department providing emergency medical care, technical rescue services, and fire protection to the Town of Swansboro and surrounding areas in coastal North Carolina.

The SFD provides these services with a staff comprised of 12 full time employees, 10 part time employees, and 10 dedicated volunteers, working a 48/96 rotating schedule and answering 1,500 calls for service in 2025!

🚁 Thank You! 🚒

A huge shout out to our friends at Novant Health AirLink/VitaLink! 🚁

Yesterday, our personnel had the opportunity to participate in a Landing Zone Operations class, providing valuable training on establishing safe helicopter landing zones and supporting critical air medical operations. Following the class, the AirLink/VitaLink crew joined us at National Night Out, giving our community a chance to see the helicopter up close, meet the flight crew, and learn more about the lifesaving role they play across our region.

Thank you to the entire Novant Health AirLink/VitaLink team for investing in our firefighters and helping educate the public. Partnerships like these make all of us better prepared to serve when seconds count.

🚨Promotion Announcement 🚨

Congratulations to Fire Engineer Zachary Albano on his recent promotion!

Following a working fire our crews responded to last Friday, Chief Randall had the opportunity to officially present Engineer Albano with his Fire Engineer shield.

Engineer Albano recently completed the promotional process and has officially advanced to the rank of Fire Engineer.

Throughout his time with the Swansboro Fire Department, he has consistently demonstrated a strong commitment to training, service, and our mission. His work ethic and positive attitude make him a tremendous asset to our department, and we are excited to watch him continue to grow in this new role.

🔥🚨Working Fire Alert #2 in Less Than 24 Hours! 🚨🔥

Last night at approximately 9:15 p.m., Swansboro Fire responded on automatic aid to assist Western Carteret Fire & EMS with a reported residential structure fire.

Western Engine 1 arrived to find a working fire and quickly initiated an aggressive interior attack, bringing the fire under control within minutes. Squad 17 assisted alongside our mutual aid partners with fire suppression, overhaul, and salvage operations.

Strong teamwork, training, and coordination once again proved the value of our automatic aid system.

🔥🚨 Working Fire - Auto Aid 🚨🔥

Shortly after noon today, Swansboro Fire responded as automatic aid to the Hubert Fire District for a reported residential structure fire.

Onslow County Fire Rescue Engine 203 arrived first on scene to find fire showing from the residence. Hubert Chief 801 arrived moments later and provided a secondary size-up, identifying a three-story, single-family dwelling of balloon-frame construction with fire extension into Division 3.

Squad 17 arrived and joined Engine 203 and Hubert crews in a forward operating role, assisting with fire attack and suppression operations. Due to the extreme heat and physically demanding conditions, numerous additional agencies were requested to provide personnel relief and rehabilitation support.

Balloon-frame construction presents significant challenges to firefighters, allowing fire to rapidly travel through concealed wall cavities and void spaces. Crews conducted extensive overhaul to access hidden areas and ensure the fire was completely extinguished before clearing the scene.

As always, these incidents are a team effort from the moment the 911 call is received until the last unit returns to service. A special thank you to the Onslow County E911 telecommunicators for coordinating resources, ensuring every request from the fireground was answered, and keeping operations moving seamlessly throughout the incident.

Outstanding work by everyone involved. Incidents like these are a reminder that successful outcomes are built on coordinated regional partnerships and a shared commitment to protecting our communities.

No injuries were report. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the Onslow County Fire Marshal's Office.

🚨🔥 Working Fire - Auto Aid🔥🚨

Shortly after 8:20 p.m. tonight, Swansboro Fire Department was dispatched on automatic aid to assist Onslow County Fire-Rescue’s Bear Creek District with a reported residential structure fire.

Swansboro Car 3 was first arriving but experienced radio transmission issues. Hubert Chief 802 arrived immediately behind and provided an initial size-up of a single-story, single-family residence with light smoke showing. Chief 802 declared a working fire and, alongside Swansboro Car 3, established a forwarding operational (“working”) command until additional command staff arrived.

Swansboro Car 1 arrived shortly afterward and assumed Incident Command, with Chief 802 transitioning to Operations.

Fire was quickly located in the garage with smoke conditions extending throughout the residence. Crews quickly controlled the fire using a water can before Onslow County Engine 203 arrived and stretched the first attack line. The incident was time-stamped as a working fire at 8:31:25 p.m., with the fire declared under control at 8:34:38 p.m.

Additional crews completed a primary search, ventilated the structure, and supported suppression operations. The rapid, coordinated response by all agencies helped confine the fire to the room of origin and significantly limited further damage.

Responding agencies included:

- Hubert Volunteer Fire Department
- Swansboro Fire Department
- Piney Green Volunteer Fire Department
- Camp Lejeune Fire & Emergency Services
- Onslow County EMS

While not physically on scene, we also recognize the outstanding telecommunicators at Onslow County E911, who were monitoring every transmission and supporting responders from the moment the call was received.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Onslow County Fire Marshal’s Office.

Incidents like these are a reminder that successful outcomes are built on teamwork, training, and partnerships.
