**October 26, 2026**

NEWS RELEASE – DOMESTIC DISTURBANCE / ASSAULT INVESTIGATION

On October 26, 2026, at approximately 2:12 p.m., Swansea Police Department officers responded to a reported domestic disturbance in the 200 block of East Caroline Street. While officers were en route, dispatch advised that the disturbance had escalated into a physical altercation involving an individual armed with a knife.

Upon arrival, officers located a victim suffering from multiple injuries. A witness reported that the suspect had fled into a neighboring residence. Officers immediately rendered medical aid to the victim while others searched for the suspect.

Officers subsequently located the suspect and took him into custody without further incident. Emergency medical personnel transported the victim to an area hospital for evaluation and treatment. There is no ongoing threat to the public associated with this incident.

Anyone with information relating to the incident is encouraged to contact Det. Alex Wilken, 618-233-8114 x115. The Swansea Police Department appreciates the assistance provided by the Belleville Police Department and Medstar Ambulance personnel.

This remains an active investigation. The identities of those involved are being withheld at this time, and additional information will be released when appropriate.

Swansea residents, please be aware of likely traffic delays in the area of North 17th and North 28th Streets on Saturday, September 26, from 0700 am to 0130 pm, as a small portion of the Belleville marathon course travels through the southwest corner of the Village on Kingsbury, Penrose, and Catawba. Use extra caution as numerous runners, volunteers, and spectators will be present. Thank you for your patience and compliance!

Attempted Police Traffic Stop Leads to Arrest for Aggravated Fleeing/Eluding >$300 property and Obstructing a Peace Officer

On September 7, 2026, at approximately 3:00 p.m., a Swansea Police Department officer arrested Tazia J. Beison following a traffic crash near the intersection of North Belt West and North 17th Street.

A Swansea officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a 2003 Hyundai Sonata after observing that the license plates displayed on the vehicle did not return to the Hyundai. The driver, identified as Beison, failed to stop and fled from the officer.
The vehicle continued for approximately 1,000 feet toward the intersection of North Belt West and North 17th Street, where it entered the intersection against a red traffic signal and was involved in a traffic crash.

Following the crash, Beison and several occupants of the vehicle attempted to flee the scene on foot but were apprehended.

Beison was charged with Aggravated Fleeing or Attempting to Elude a Peace Officer involving property damage exceeding $300 and Obstructing a Peace Officer.

The investigation remains ongoing regarding the other occupants of the vehicle. The Illinois State Police handled the traffic crash.

All persons charged with a crime are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

Congratulations on Your Retirement, Officer Jason Tutterow!

Officer Jason Tutterow, DSN 25, officially retired from the Swansea Police Department on Friday. Jason was joined by his family, along with numerous current and retired Swansea Police Officers, as we celebrated his career and wished him well on this next chapter.

His commitment to the department and the residents of Swansea is greatly appreciated, and the friendships he built along the way will continue long after his final shift.

We thank Jason for his years of service and sacrifice and wish him nothing but happiness, good health, and plenty of time to enjoy retirement with his family.

Congratulations, Jason, and thank you for your service to the Swansea Police Department and our community! You are 10-42, retired!
