WE DO NOT HAVE A GRASS HEIGHT POLICE FORCE
Recently a concern was raised about mowing of grass and what actions the village might take regarding unmown laws. Let me be very clear - the village does not go around with a ruler measuring your lawn height.
However, when we receive a complaint from a resident about a lawn that seems to need to be addressed, then we respond.
Someone recently mentioned on social media that if your grass exceeded 6 inches the village would come out and mow it and charge you an exorbitant fee. This was incorrect.
See the village ordinance below.
If we receive a complaint about grass exceeding 10 inches, we notify the resident and ask them to be in compliance within 7 days. If they cannot be in compliance within that time frame we try to work out a plan/timeframe for them to be in compliance.
We do not come out and mow lawns unless and until all options have been exhausted. This typically will only occur when there is a vacant property, and the owner cannot be found.

§ 92.04 ABATEMENT OF NUISANCES—STANDARD ABATEMENT.
