If you see them and need them, wave them down or call 911. They are loaded down with medical equipment ready to serve you. They have Tac 13 out for easy responses within town limits with all of our visitors and traffic today.

We are excited to see everyone come to Swayzee this weekend to enjoy Rummage days. Come see our little town and all it has to offer and enjoy yourself. Important reminder there is to be No parking on either side of East Cole Street. When people park there, it causes a traffic and safety hazard. Emergency crews are not able to reach residents when needed.

Swayzee Fire was dispatched to State Road 22 and 400 W for a van on fire. Upon arrival, Engine 13 found a passenger van fully involved. Tanker 13 provided water supply to Engine 13. The fire was brought under control in approximately 5 minutes of being on scene. A small ditch fire had also started as a result of the vehicle fire. Driver of the vehicle stated he had approximately a half tank of fuel. Due to the quantity of fuel leaked out and proximity to the drainage ditch, Marion Hazmat 1 and Engine 2 responded to mitigate the hazmat hazard. Carey Farms assisted the scene with a skid loader to help clean up hazmat material. While on scene, Tanker 13 left this scene and responded to a separate incident in Swayzee involving a wrecked moped.

We would like to thank the following agencies for their response.
Grant County Sheriff's Office - Marion, IN
Indiana State Police-Peru District
Marion Indiana Fire Department
Losure’s Towing

Swayzee Fire had an exciting day yesterday. We had our groundbreaking for addition to our station. We also had opportunity to recognize a couple members.

Last year, Swayzee Fire was able to secure funding to purchase a Lifepack 15. This is a heart monitor that is normally carried on an ambulance. It can be used to detect critical heart rhythms as well as oxygenation and CO2 output. It was a goal of mine to get this so we could better help our citizens. In April, we responded to a call for help. EMT Chelsie Bundrick and Deputy Chief James Trusty responded. After assessing the patient, they placed a 12 lead ekg on the patient. When the Paramedic ambulance arrived, the EKG was given to them. They determined the patient to be in a heart rhythm that needed immediate attention. Without their quick action, this would not have been detected and the patient would have not received care to treat the problem. Dave Bard, Marion Health EMS manager, came to present EMS Commendation awards to Chelsie Bundrick. Deputy Chief Trusty was unable to attend and will have his issued to him at later date. We are proud of both of them and the care they provide.
