🚨 Swayzee Police Department – 2026 Golf Cart Permits 🚨

It’s that time of year again! The Swayzee Police Department is now issuing 2026 Golf Cart Permits for residents who plan to operate golf carts or ORV’s on town streets.

To stay safe and legal, all golf carts operated within town limits must be properly permitted each year.

✅ How to Obtain Your 2026 Permit:
• Stop by the Swayzee Town Hall during normal business hours: Monday thru Thursday 9am - 4pm, and on Friday 9am - 12pm.
• Bring proof of insurance
• Ensure your golf cart meets all required safety equipment standards

💡 Important Reminders:
• Permits must be renewed annually
• Operators must be a valid licensed driver
• Valid insurance policy
• Follow all traffic laws just like any other vehicle
• Stay alert and watch for pedestrians, especially as warmer weather approaches

Our goal is to keep everyone in our community safe while enjoying the convenience of golf carts around town.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact us or stop by the department—we’re happy to help!

🚨 Swayzee Police Department Severe Weather Alert 🚨

Good afternoon, Swayzee—

We’re keeping a close eye on the weather today as strong storms are expected to move into our area later this afternoon and evening. These storms could bring heavy rain, strong winds, hail, and possibly an isolated tornado.

⏰ Timing: Late afternoon through the evening hours

🌧️ What we’re asking from our community:

⚡ Please stay away from downed power lines
If you see one, assume it’s live. Keep your distance and call 911.

🚗 Do NOT drive through flooded roads
Even a small amount of water can stall or sweep your vehicle away.
👉 If you can’t see the road, don’t risk it — turn around.

🏠 Take a few minutes to prepare
• Secure trash cans and loose outdoor items
• Charge your phones
• Make sure you have a way to receive weather alerts

👮‍♂️ As always, we’re here for you. Our officers will be out monitoring conditions and responding as needed.

We know Swayzee looks out for one another—please check in on neighbors, especially the elderly, and stay weather aware tonight.

📲 We’ll continue to post updates as needed.

Stay safe, Swayzee. 💙

I want to take a moment to share how truly thankful I am for the incredible citizens of Swayzee. Serving as your Town Marshal is an honor, and I’m grateful every day for the trust, support, and kindness you continually show our department.

This community is special—not because of the buildings or streets, but because of the people who call Swayzee home. Your support makes all the difference in helping us keep our town safe, strong, and connected.

I wish you a warm, happy, and safe Thanksgiving.

🇺🇸 Never Forget – September 11, 2001 🇺🇸

Today, we pause to remember 9/11 — a day forever etched into the heart of our nation. We honor the countless heroes who ran toward danger when others fled — the police officers, firefighters, EMTs, and civilians who gave everything in service to others. Their courage, sacrifice, and selflessness stand as a timeless example of the very best of humanity.

We also pay tribute to the first responders who continue to serve our communities today. Every shift, every call, and every act of service reflects the same spirit of bravery and devotion shown on that fateful day. Your commitment keeps our towns and cities safe, and your sacrifices do not go unnoticed.

May we never forget those who were lost. May we forever honor those who served. And may we remain steadfast in our gratitude for all who still answer the call to protect and save lives in this great country.

In God We Trust.

Swayzee Residents,

As we approach the July 4th holiday, we would like to remind everyone to prioritize safety when handling fireworks. Additionally, we would like to highlight the Town Ordinance governing the use of fireworks and the permitted times for their discharge.

PLEASE be considerate of your neighbors' properties, including their yards and houses, when setting off fireworks. We encourage you to exercise common sense and avoid handling fireworks while under the influence of narcotics or alcohol. Our primary objective is to ensure the safety and well-being of all residents, including children, during this holiday period.

We will provide a link to the IDHS Firework Safety Page and a copy of the Town Ordinance below.

Wishing you a safe and enjoyable 4th of July celebration,

Marshal Miller
