Swea City Fire/Rescue and Ambulance The Swea City Fire Dept is a volunteer service consisting of 24 active and 3 reserve members. The Ambulance service consists of 11 EMT'S and 5 drivers.

The Swea City Fire Department was first organized in 1902 but a constitution was not drawn up nor were records kept until 1906. The original name was Hose Company #1 of Swea City Iowa. The department started with fourteen members. The two women were added for the fifteenth and sixteenth members. The department assumed ambulance duties in 1969. In 1989 the ambulance service was authorized by the State of Iowa. The fire protection area is about 100 square miles.
