Parents and Guardians,

Our top priority is the safety and security of our students, faculty, and staff. Last night a social media post circulated that Sweeny ISD Police Department is understaffed and unable to provide a safe environment for our district. We understand the concern this social media post may cause our Sweeny ISD community. Sweeny ISD wants to be sure that all safety issues are addressed to ensure a safe district environment for our students, faculty and staff, and community.

The Sweeny ISD Police Department employs three full-time Police Officers and is working to continue to grow their department to increase police presence in our district. At the beginning of the 22-23 school year, the Sweeny School Board of Trustees approved adding a fourth officer to our Police Department. We aim to find the best qualified and suited individuals to provide a safe learning environment. Sweeny ISD strives to ensure safety and security are at the forefront of our district priorities. We will continue working with our community to ensure our students, faculty and staff, and guests are safe.

With unwavering consistency, Sweeny ISD Police Department will create a safe and secure educational environment for students, faculty, and staff alike through a resilient police presence and an intentional interaction with the entire Sweeny ISD family. If you have any questions or concerns, contact our Sweeny ISD Chief of Police, Ulysses Velez, at (979) 491-8186.

Good afternoon Parents/Guardians,

Please express the importance of all students using the crosswalks, especially at Main St and 6th. Far too many students are crossing Main St into traffic. We want to prevent any of our students from injury, as their safety is paramount to Sweeny ISD.

Please review the attached flyer for Road and Safety Rules for students. Safety is always first; we encourage parents to review road safety with their students. If you have any questions, please get in touch with the Sweeny ISD Police Department at (979) 491-8186.

Thank you, and have a wonderful day,
Ulysses Velez

Today Sweeny Elementary School said ”see you later” to our fearless leader, Chief Way. Over the last few years, Chief Way has been our fearless leader who inspired not only our Police Department to achieve success but everyone around him and our entire district. Today was Chief Way’s last day with the Sweeny ISD Police Department. We know he will continue to achieve great things and inspire more individuals. Thank you, Chief, for making our district safe, being a true friend, and leading our department through integrity and resilience. We are proud of you and your future journey!
