NATIONAL POLICE WEEK, 2021

In observance of National Police Week, we pay honor and tribute to the law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty and to all those officers who currently serve.

In 1962, President John F. Kennedy enacted Peace Officers Memorial Day & National Police Week. The designations pay tribute to the law enforcement officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country and to voice our appreciation for all those who currently serve on the front lines of the battle against crime. The Congress, by a joint resolution approved on October 1, 1962, designated May 15 of each year as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which it falls as National Police Week.

APRIL IS CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION MONTH

In Texas, more than 4 children die from abuse or neglect on average every week and 184 children are confirmed victims every day. Child abuse is the mistreatment of a child that results in harm or injury. Many of these children are removed from these abusive situations and placed with foster care. Gulf Coast CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) serves Brazoria, Matagorda, and Wharton county abuse and neglected children in foster care. Please help them in their efforts to make a child’s life brighter. Gulf Coast CASA desperately seeks VOLUNTEERS.

The Sweeny Police Department has joined with Gulf Coast CASA as a designated Coins for Kids collection location. Donate to the cause by dropping off your coins in their collection container in the police department lobby.

Friday, April 9 is GO BLUE DAY! Wear blue in support of Child Abuse Prevention Month.
