🚨 SCAM ALERT 🚨

The Nolan County District Clerk’s Office received reports today from residents who received phone calls claiming they had missed jury duty and that, because they “signed” for the summons, they would now have to pay a fine or be arrested.

⚠️ These calls are scams!

Hang up immediately and do not give out any personal information.

Nolan County District Clerk Jamie Clem wants everyone to know:

✅ Jury duty is important
✅ You will not be arrested for missing jury duty
✅ Jury summonses are mailed by regular mail
✅ You do not sign for the summons

📬 If you receive a call like this, do not fall for it. HANG UP!!!

"United for Safety: Gratitude to Our First Responders and Neighbors."
A huge thank you to our law enforcement and fire department partners for their quick, professional response and teamwork during the IH-20 incident. We appreciate the Sweetwater Police Department, Texas DPS Highway Patrol, Sweetwater Fire Department and Ambulance Service, Roscoe Volunteer Fire Department, Lake Sweetwater VFD, TXDOT, Rosado's Wrecker Service, and the Nolan County Sheriff's Posse for helping us round up the horses involved in the wreck.

We also want to thank the countless citizens who stopped to help — your compassion and assistance made a real difference. Grateful to everyone who came together to keep our community safe.

Yesterday, Nolan County deputies responded to a major incident on Interstate Twenty at the 239-mile post, involving an overturned tractor trailer hauling horses. As a result of the crash, numerous horses escaped onto the interstate and surrounding properties, creating a dangerous and fast-moving sit...

This week, the Nolan County Sheriff’s Office honors National Police Week — a time to remember and pay respect to law enforcement officers across the nation who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their communities. Established by President John F. Kennedy in 1962, National Police Week includes Peace Officers Memorial Day, designated on May 15, when we pause to honor those who gave everything to protect others.

We stand with the families and colleagues of fallen officers. Their courage and dedication will never be forgotten. Please join us in remembering them, offering support to surviving loved ones, and showing appreciation for the men and women who protect Nolan County and our entire nation every day.

This week (May 3–9, 2026), we honor National Correctional Officers Week — a time to recognize the often unseen first responders who work behind the scenes to keep our jails safe, secure, and humane.

Established in 1984 by President Ronald Reagan, National Correctional Officers Week recognizes the vital role correctional staff play in maintaining public safety. To every correctional officer, sergeant, counselor, nurse, and support staff member who shows up day after day: thank you. Your work is demanding, stressful, and often goes unnoticed, but it matters deeply. You maintain order, protect inmates, staff, and the public, de-escalate dangerous situations, and provide essential care and services that can help people rehabilitate and rebuild their lives.

Please join me in thanking these professionals for their courage, professionalism, and compassion. If you know a correctional officer, leave a message of appreciation below — a simple “thank you” can mean a lot.
