Dr. Tyi-Sanna Jones of Open Up Yoga recently led an engaging and restorative yoga class at Dickson, where 6th and 7th grade students explored healthy coping skills and calming practices to support their overall well-being.

Through guided movement, mindful breathing, and relaxation techniques, participants learned practical strategies for managing stress, improving focus, and building emotional resilience.

The session encouraged students to slow down, connect with their bodies and minds, and discover positive ways to navigate everyday challenges both inside and outside the classroom.

The seventh grade orchestra, choir, and band had the honors of closing out the WHSD Department of Music spring concert season with the second half of Wednesday's concert at the high school.

Under the direction of Mr. Evan Reichenfeld, the orchestra opened the show with a piece that had three distinct movements. "Three Scenes from a Green Valley" by William G. Harbinson challenged the students to play in different tempos and tons to create distinct atmospheres in each segment. The orchestra finished with the dramatic "Haunted Carousel" and "Medieval Wars."

Mr. Reichenfeld and the choir were up next, and their four selections were all hits. "Count on Me" was a chart-topper by Bruno Mars, while "Angel of Music/Phantom of the Opera" are instantly recognizable from the classic "Phantom of the Opera." "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" remains beloved decades after it was released and it had the audience clapping along. The final song was Michael Jackson's reflective "Man in the Mirror."

The band stepped onto the stage to close out the show. Under the direction of Mr. Kevin Varga, the band played four selections that showed off the depth of their sound. "Rhythmania" had them clapping and stomping along with their instruments, while "Through the Mist" was light and airy. The band finished with MIchael Kamuf's "Allegory" and "Terracotta" by William Owens.

Thank you to everyone who came out to support our students on Wednesday and all throughout the spring concert season!

The sixth grade orchestra, chorus, and band put on a fantastic show Wednesday night to the delight of a packed auditorium at the high school.

Under the direction of Mr. Evan Reichenfeld, the orchestra opened the evening with three selections that helped showcase just how far these young musicians have come since the beginning of the year. The orchestra began with "Rhythm and Blues" by Soon Hee Newbold, which was followed by "Susquehanna River Pirates" by Tim Thompson. It closed with "Dragonhunter" by Richard Meyer.

Ms. Katie Miller and the sixth grade chorus took the stage next and began with a piece that contained three separate movements. "Tre Canciones de los Elementos" by Victor C. Johnson featured segments devoted to the wind, to rain, and to fire. Kermit's favorite song, "The Rainbow Connection" from "The Muppet Movie," was up next. The chorus finished with a performance of "Everybody Rejoice" from "The Wiz."

The sixth grade band and Mr. Kevin Varga wrapped up the performance with three songs. The thunderous "Storm Chasing" by William Owens came first, followed by "Danza de Espana" by Carol Britten Chambers. The band concluded with "Red Comet" by Michael Oare.

Thank you to everyone who came out to support the sixth grade orchestra, chorus, and band. Your support of the WHSD Department of Music is greatly appreciated!
