Today the Woodland Hills School District conducted an active shooter drill at Dickson School. Officers from the Swissvale-Braddock Hills Regional Police Department were on scene to assist with the exercise.

As part of the drill, officers temporarily blocked several roads to safely facilitate the movement of students to a designated rally point in the event of an actual emergency at the school.

Residents may have noticed increased police activity, temporary road closures, or students walking with their hands raised as part of the simulated exercise.

This was a planned training exercise and there was no actual emergency at the school.

We appreciate the cooperation of the Woodland Hills School District, staff, students, and community as we continue to practice and prepare for emergency situations

We are sharing this message from our neighbors at the Edgewood Police Department regarding racist flyers recently distributed in their community.

As a neighboring community, we want our Swissvale residents to be aware that these flyers have unfortunately made their way into our community. If you have information about their distribution, or would like to make a report, please contact the Swissvale-Braddock Hills Regional Police Department at 412-473-3056 or 911.

We stand with our neighboring communities in making it clear that there is no place for racism, hatred, or messages intended to intimidate or divide our residents.

Please continue to look out for one another and reach out to us with any concerns.

A big THANK YOU to The Western Pennsylvania School For The Deaf for inviting our officers to your community block party!

Our officers had a great time spending the day with the students, families, staff, and members of the community. Events like this are a great opportunity for our officers to connect with the community, build relationships, and have some fun outside of our normal duties.

THANK YOU, REPRESENTATIVE SALISBURY & SENATOR COSTA!

Swissvale-Braddock Hills Regional Police Department would like to extend our sincere thanks to State Representative Abigail Salisbury and State Senator Jay Costa for their support in securing $326,623 in grant funding for four new hybrid police vehicles!

This funding will provide the department with two marked patrol vehicles, one unmarked patrol vehicle, and one marked K-9 vehicle — a tremendous investment in the equipment our officers rely on every day to serve and protect our communities.

As a new regional department, investments like this make a tremendous difference. These vehicles will help us maintain a modern, reliable fleet while allowing us to put more resources toward the safety and service of the residents of Swissvale and Braddock Hills.

We truly appreciate Representative Salisbury and Senator Costa for recognizing the needs of our department and advocating for funding that directly benefits our officers and our communities.

Community Traffic Advisory

Motorists are advised to avoid the intersection of Yost Boulevard and Brinton Road whenever possible due to significant traffic delays caused by ongoing construction in the area.

Drivers should expect extended wait times, lane restrictions, and increased congestion, between 7 AM and 5 PM. Alternate routes are strongly encouraged to help reduce traffic backups and improve travel times.

Please allow extra time for travel, follow all posted traffic control devices, and use caution when traveling through construction zones.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation as these improvements are completed.

🚧 WEEKEND PARKWAY EAST TRAFFIC RESTRICTIONS 🚧

Please be advised of upcoming traffic restrictions on I-376 (Parkway East) this weekend:

📅 Friday, August 28 through Monday, August 31

➡️ Westbound I-376 will be reduced to one lane between the Churchill (Exit 79B) exit and the Edgewood (Exit 77) interchange beginning at 9:00 PM Friday through 5:00 AM Monday.

🚨 Eastbound I-376 – Edgewood Exit 77 Ramp Closure
The eastbound off-ramp to Edgewood/South Braddock Avenue will be closed from 9:00 PM Friday through 5:00 AM Sunday. A detour will be posted.

Detour:
• Take the ramp toward Swissvale
• Turn left onto Monongahela Avenue
• Follow Monongahela Avenue to South Braddock Avenue

⚠️ Motorists traveling through the area should expect delays and allow additional travel time. Please use caution in the work zone and follow all posted detour signs.

All work is weather dependent, and restrictions may be lifted early if work is completed ahead of schedule.
