As the weather warms up, you may encounter more solicitors going door to door in your neighborhood. Here are some tips to stay safe if someone visits your door!

Anyone desiring to solicit in the borough must first obtain a permit from the Administrative Office, which includes a criminal background check review by the Swissvale Braddock Hills Regional Police Department.

A legitimate Borough of Swissvale Solicitation Permit will include the name of the individual approved to go door-to-door, the name of the company or organization and the date the permit expires. Most importantly, it will have a raised Borough of Swissvale seal on it.

Solicitors are required to have their permit with them at all times. When someone comes to your door, immediately ask to see their permit. If they do not have one, you are advised to call 911 and alert the police. The police will sort out the matter, explain how to obtain a permit and will discourage individuals without permits from coming back to the area. Valid solicitors will be able to show you their permit.

NEVER allow a solicitor into your home for any reason, even if they have a valid permit.

Solicitation in the borough is strictly enforced and limited to the hours of 9 am – 7pm Monday – Saturday.

The Borough Administrative Office provides approved solicitors with a Do Not Solicit List of addresses they should not visit. If you would like to add your address to the list please complete the Do Not Solicit Form:

Veterans, family and friends gathered at the Carnegie Free Library of Swissvale this morning for the rededication of the Swissvale War Memorials. The service included a gun salute, the raising of the flag, the reading of memorials of Swissvale residents who died in war, the reading of the Constitution by George Washington himself, and the playing of Taps. A beautiful and meaningful service to remember and honor our service people!
