Illinois is bucking historic trends for severe weather and tornadoes this spring.

Make sure you have an emergency kit ready to go for more severe weather. Ready Illinois is a great resource for preparing an emergency kit and plan: https://ready.illinois.gov/plan/emergencykit.html

Illinois has seen more than double the number of tornadoes as any other state so far this year.

One of the main things that came up this week was the latest tax and revenue briefing from the Commission on Government Forecasting and Accountability (CGFA).

For a deeper dive into the issue, my colleague CD Davidsmeyer, who is a co-chair of the bipartisan CGFA, joined me to discuss what the Commission does and some of the concerns raised in the latest briefing.

Here is my next episode of Beyond the Headlines with Rep. Keicher: Commission on Government Forecasting and Accountability

Here is the link to this month's briefing so you can review the data yourself:https://cgfa.ilga.gov/Upload/0426%20Monthly.pdf

If you have a topic you want me to discuss in more detail for another “Beyond the Headlines” video, please reach out to my office:

Today, the General Assembly joined with law enforcement officers from across the state for the Illinois Peace Officer Memorial Ceremony at the Capitol. It is fitting that on this solemn day, the House adopted Senate Joint Resolution 35 to designate State Route 23 from Perry Road to McGirr Road as the "Deputy Sheriff Christina Musil Memorial Highway."

While naming a road in her honor is a small gesture, it is the least we can do to honor the life of someone who helped so many others. She set an incredible example for her children and our community. May her memory live on.

I want to thank State Senator Sue Rezin for carrying the resolution in the Senate and IDOT for their assistance in making this designation a reality.

Thank you to all our law enforcement and first responders for your selfless service and sacrifice to protect our communities.

The death of DeKalb County Sheriff’s Deputy Christina "Beana" Musil was a profound tragedy that devastated our community. I remember attending the memorial service that was held after her passing and being awestruck by the outpouring of love and respect for the dedication this incredible person brought to serving others. Her life was a true embodiment of what it means to serve.

To honor her memory, Senate Joint Resolution 35 Designates State Route 23 from Perry Road to McGirr Road as the "Deputy Sheriff Christina Musil Memorial Highway."

While naming a road in her honor is a small gesture, it is the least we can do to honor the life of someone who helped so many others. She set an incredible example for her children and our community. May her memory live on.

Thanks to State Senator Sue Rezin, who carried the measure in the Senate.

Today, the Illinois House of Representatives committee for Transportation: Regulation, Roads & Bridges unanimously passed legislation carried by State Representative Jeff Keicher (R-Sycamore) to honor the memory of DeKalb County Sheriff’s Deputy Christina M. “Beana” Musil. Deputy Musil was tra...

Crushing property taxes are driving families, small businesses, and opportunities out of Illinois. The reality is, property taxes don’t just show up on a bill - they shape major life decisions. Whether a young family can afford a first home, a senior can stay in the home they’ve owned for decades, or a small business can stay afloat, all are directly affected by the high cost of property taxes. Sadly, too many people feel they have little or no say in the process, and that has to change.

My House Republican colleagues and I have offered several proposals. None of the ideas we are offering are radical; they are rooted in the basic principle that we must respect and protect taxpayers. We can once again make our state the place where families and businesses flock to, where they know they can have an affordable and prosperous future. We have all the resources. Now we have to act.
