We want everyone to have a happy and safe summer, and that means discussing bike and scooter safety. With school out for the summer, there will be an influx of children out during the day time enjoying the sunshine. It is everyone's responsibility- whether in a car, or on a bike or scooter, to be safe and know the rules.
Here are some tips to ride safely this summer:
- Under 16 years old? Wear a helmet! It’s Maryland law.
- When riding in the roadway follow all the rules of the road. You are considered a vehicle.
- If riding on the sidewalk, look both ways before crossing the road or entering an intersection.
- Put down your phone and don’t wear headphones. No distractions and pay attention!
- Parents, it starts with you! Teach your children how to ride safely.
We are here to help. Need a helmet? Let us know! We will be happy to provide one as we have them available. Please contact the Sykesville Police Department at (410) 795-0757 to see if we have one in stock.
