🔥 After the Fire 🚒

Our crews were out in the neighborhood today following a recent fire, checking smoke alarms, sharing fire safety information, and even giving some of our younger neighbors a closer look at the fire truck! 🚒👨‍🚒

If we missed you, we left a door tag. Our campaign was cut a little short when crews were called away for another fire response, so if you didn’t receive a tag, email [email protected] and we’ll be happy to help check your smoke alarms.

The work doesn’t end when the fire is out. It means coming back, connecting with our neighbors, and doing what we can to help prevent the next one.

This morning, despite the rain, several of our engine drivers came out to complete an annual driver’s requirement, testing of our underground tanks and bridge mounted water supplies. Even the Chief got in on the testing 😂.

Hopefully next time we have better weather. ☔️

You may notice a suction sleeve attached to a “fire hydrant”, that’s because that hydrant is not pressurized and we need to pull a draft in order to get water from it.

Yesterday at 1642 hrs, Winfield and surrounding departments were alerted for a House Fire in the 2500 block of Vance Drive. First arriving units from Winfield found heavy fire conditions on the first and second floors. Chief 14 held command on the incident. Units fought a defensive operation due to how advanced the fire was upon arrival.

Units operated on the scene for over 5 hours. A second alarm and two Tanker Task Forces were requested due to the rural water setting and the size of the house. Winfield units Engine 141, Engine 142, Tanker 14, Medic 149, Utility 14-1, Chief 14, and EMS 14 all operated for the duration of the incident. The Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.

There were no civilian or firefighter injuries during the incident. The American Red Cross is assisting the homeowners during this difficult time.

A special thank you to our Winfield Ladies Auxiliary, for providing canteen service, including drinks and food. Thank you to Pleasant Valley Community Fire Company, Lineboro Volunteer Fire Department, and Walkersville Volunteer Fire Company #11 for filling in our station while we were on the fire.
