🚨ATTENTION🚨 SYKESVILLE BOROUGH RESIDENTS!
Sykesville Borough Council has approved a new ordinance requiring smoke detectors in all residential properties to improve fire safety.
The ordinance mandates that detectors be installed in every sleeping area, with separate rooms treated as individual sleeping spaces if they are divided by living areas like kitchens or living rooms.
In multifamily buildings with three or more units, as well as lodging facilities, detectors must also be installed in basements and on every floor in common areas.
Property owners are responsible for installing smoke detectors in both new and existing occupied units, while tenants must maintain them by replacing batteries or ensuring the devices remain properly powered.
The ordinance also establishes penalties for noncompliance and aims to reduce fire-related deaths, injuries, and property damage.
