Around 4:45 pm on 8/9 Tower 12 and Engine 124 were alerted to the 2500 block of Vance drive in Winfields first due for a reported building fire. Along with the tower and engine Chief 12-2 also responded in the call.

First arriving units from Winfield found a home with a large volume of fire throughout the house. Tower 12 was set up to flow water from the tower. Engine 124 assisted with other fire attack operations and chief 12-2 was assigned safety. Due to the size of the fire and the area having no fire hydrants it eventually required a second alarm and two tanker task forces bring units from Carroll, Frederick, Howard and Montgomery counties to the scene. Crews operated for approximately 5 hours before returning to Sykesville.

While the incident was on going multiple volunteers and chief 12 reported to the station to make sure any other calls that came in would be answered. Crews ran 4 additional calls while the fire was on going

When the tones aren't dropping, the work doesn't stop. ⏱️🔥

We don't wait for the emergency to figure out the answers. At the Sykesville Freedom District Fire Department, if we aren't out serving the community on a call, we are sharpening the spear.

True readiness takes constant effort. This week, our Volunteers and Career partners stood side-by-side to tear apart our basement fire policy and dissect recent incidents. From the classroom whiteboard to hands-on ex*****on, we look at what went right, what we can do better, and how the latest tactics keep our crew and our citizens safe.

Basement fires are dynamic, dangerous, and demanding. We train so that when the worst happens, our response is second nature.

Think you have what it takes to stand in our ranks?

We aren't just looking for people to wear the gear—we are looking for dedication. We need operational firefighters/EMS and administrative members to step up, join the brother/sisterhood, and protect this community.

No experience? We’ll give you the tools. You bring the grit.

At 8:30 pm on July 19, Station 12's emergency crew was alerted to a medical emergency. Following arrival, the crew identified the need for specialized care and determined Maryland State Police Aviation would provide the fastest transportation.
