📚 Join us for the next installment of the First Bank of Alabama Adult Lecture Series, "History Comes Alive" at B. B. Comer Memorial Library!

On Wednesday, October 21, 2026, we welcome Dolores Hydock for her presentation, “Every Picture Tells a Story: The Storytelling of Norman Rockwell”.

Norman Rockwell didn't just paint pictures; every picture told a story. This presentation includes surprising stories from Rockwell's life and career, and gives a behind-the-scenes look at how Rockwell created his one-image stories. Slide images of his sketches, models, paintings-in-process, and finished work, this program shows the step-by-step creative process Rockwell used in becoming “America’s painter” – and storyteller on canvas.

🕒 Event Details:

Doors Open: 11:00 AM (Bring your lunch early! The library provides bottled water and the Hickory Street Café provides a prepackaged dessert).

Program Starts: 12:00 PM in the Harry I. Brown Auditorium (HIB).

Many thanks to Lane Sauser for sharing her parents’ beautiful love story through the heartfelt letters her father wrote to her mother during World War II as part of the Adult Brown Bag Series at B. B. Comer Memorial Library. And special thanks to her husband, Bill Sauser, for bringing her father’s words to life. It was a touching reminder of how letters can preserve not only a love story, but also a meaningful piece of history for generations to come!

“Practicing War: Love Letters from a GI”
A daughter discovers five little bundles of letters, tied with pink and blue ribbons, that spark this World War II-era memoir of wartime sweethearts—an age-old story that far too many servicemen never had the chance to tell. The love letters, written by her love-struck father to his girl back home, chronicle her parent’s long-distance courtship during the two years of military training that led him to bitter fighting in France and Germany and the liberation of a N**i concentration camp. Forced upon a journey he never could have imagined, this soldier finds himself, and love finds him.

Starting tomorrow, October 14th, OverDrive and Libby are adding an extra layer of security to keep your account safe! When signing into Libby or the OverDrive digital library website, you will now be required to enter both your library card number and your PIN/password.

Here is what you need to know to ensure a seamless reading and listening experience:

What is your PIN? If you already have a password set up on your library account, use that when prompted.

Need help with your password? For your privacy and security, library staff cannot view your existing password. If you aren't sure what your PIN is or if you need it set up or reset, just give us a call at the library or stop by the front desk, and we will be happy to update it for you in no time!

The next time you log into Libby after October 14th, simply enter your library card number and your PIN when prompted.
