🚨 🚨 🚨 Coaling Rd from the water tower to Settlement Rd is currently closed due to multiple trees and power lines down. It will most likely be closed for a couple of hours as utility crews work to restore power and clear the roadway. Please use an alternate route if you are traveling in the area!

SFD helped our community fight the heat this afternoon! Put out the water curtain for a while and wet down their slip and slide before we left…we enjoyed spending our downtime serving the people of Sylacauga!

This afternoon, SFD was dispatched to S Bolton Ave near the Victorian Village Shopping Center. A contractor working in the area struck a natural gas line resulting in a large leak which also bled over into the sewer system. As a result, the shopping center and several nearby residences had to be evacuated. The Sylacauga Utilities Board Gas Dept responded and mitigated the leak and repaired the gas line. SFD units remained on scene until the gas line was repaired in case there were any issues from the natural gas in the area. After the line was repaired, all FD units were returned to service, and all affected structures are now safe for regular use again.

It’s that time of year again. We have a potential for strong storms overnight tonight. Almost all of Alabama is under threat from severe thunderstorms, strong winds, hail, and, yes, possible tornadoes. As this is an overnight event, so please ensure you have multiple ways to be woken up if your location is threatened. Multiple local phone apps and/or weather radios are great options for this purpose! Do not rely on tornado sirens to wake you up overnight - they are designed for outdoors notification only. As always, have a plan in place for when severe weather threatens and pay close attention to updates from local meteorologists and the National Weather Service throughout the day and overnight!
