Way to go sarge!

We have a bear-y cute photo to share with you 🐻

Today, New York State Police Sergeant Station Commander Richard Kosakowski, assigned to Troop D, was contacted by a passerby while driving on West Ava Road in Oneida County about something unusual in the roadway.

Turns out, it wasn’t your average roadside hazard… it was a tiny, furry cub causing a brief bear-ier to traffic.

Sergeant Kosakowski contacted the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, who responded to safely take over and help reunite the cub with its mom.

A good reminder to slow down and stay alert… you never know who might be crossing!

Today at 2:56 PM, Sylvan Beach Fire Department along with the Oneida Lake Task Force was alerted to a water rescue near the south shore boat launch in Bridgeport, where the victim had fallen off his canoe, was not wearing a life jacket, and was unable to swim. Bridgeport Fire Department was in command of the incident.

Sylvan Beach Rescue 1, Squad 1, Water Rescue 2 and Water Rescue 3 responded to the boat launch. Sylvan Beach Water Rescue 2 was launched and responded to the location of the canoe, where rescuers were able to pull the victim from the 35 degree water and bring him safely back to shore. The victim was transferred to an awaiting ambulance.

This incident could have taken a tragic turn if it was not for the rapid response of the Oneida Lake Task Force. The importance of PFDs cannot be stressed enough, because even the most experienced swimmer would have difficulty in hypothermic water temperatures. PFDs save lives.
