Through this support, individuals with cerebral palsy are able to access adaptive equipment and resources that increase independence, freedom, and quality of life. From riding bikes with their families to traveling with adaptive strollers, these opportunities make a meaningful difference for the individuals and families we serve across Northwest Ohio.

We are incredibly grateful for the Elksโ€™ continued commitment to creating a more inclusive community.

Calling all The Ability Center School Facility Dog Schools! Itโ€™s time for some paws-itively friendly competition! ๐Ÿ†

Our School Facility Dogs do so much more than bring smiles; they help students feel safe, supported, and ready to learn every single day. From easing anxiety and encouraging reading confidence to simply being a comforting presence in the hallway, these incredible dogs make a lasting impact in our schools.

Now itโ€™s your chance to celebrate them! Vote for the Best 2026 School Facility Dog and help recognize the Assistance Dog whoโ€™s making a difference in your school community. Voting is open through May 5th, and you can cast one vote each day. The winning school and its amazing dog will be honored at The Ability Centerโ€™s Access Summit on June 17th.

Be sure to show your school pride by dropping photos of your School Facility Dogs in the comments and telling us why theyโ€™re the best! Vote today: https://abilitycenter.org/vote

Let the tail-wagging competition begin, and may the best dog win! ๐Ÿพ

A new study conducted in partnership between The Ability Center, the City of Toledo, and Mathematica: Progress Together reveals a significant shortage of accessible housing across the city, impacting tens of thousands of residents.

The report emphasizes that accessible housing must support independent living throughout the home, including kitchens, bathrooms, layouts, and safety features tailored to different types of disabilities. It outlines strategies to help close the gap, including increasing the supply of accessible housing, expanding support for home modifications, improving coordination across systems, and making it easier for residents to find housing that truly meets their needs.

The findings are intended to guide continued collaboration between community organizations, policymakers, developers, and residents.
