It is with a broken heart that I inform all of you that we have sadly lost another of our 1967 classmates. Sue (Roynon) Hartenstein gained her angel wings yesterday (as if she didn't already have a pair). She succumbed to the oh so wicked Lewy Body Dementia. I had not mentioned this previously as Mike and Sue were pretty private about her illness until recently and Sue did not care to have people visiting her. As it often does, the symptoms came on suddenly and obviously took their final toll just as rapidly.
Sue and I did our usual jaunts to craft fairs in the fall and the Hartensteins, Guths, and Karchers all brought in the New Year together as we have for nearly 40 years without her showing any symptoms. She started to have sleeping problems and anxiety which progressed intopsychiatric issues. She also had some symptoms which mimicked Parkinsons which run in her family. One thing led to another and she underwent multiple testing to rule out multiple neurologic diseases. She was finally diagnosed at Cleveland Clinic (I can't remember the exact month) and by summer was confined to a wheelchair although she still knew all of us and was communicating logically at times. The last month has brought a rapid decline and she has been under the excellent care of Hospice.

He and Kristen took wonderful care of her and Craig and Eric camped out at home and were great support for Mike.
How do you say goodbye to your "bestie"? I'm trying to figure that out. She was the kind of friend every girl should have in her life. From taking our babies in strollers to the malls to watching our grandchildren grow up, we did it together. The 4 of us took all our vacations and trips to the lake together. I wouldn't wish her back to the misery she endured, but I sure wish I didn't have to live the rest of the days I have on this earth without the misery she endured, but I sure wish I didn't have to live the rest of the days I have left on this earth without her. She was the best. God hold you in His loving arms, my dear friend.

I’m filling in for Joyce this month. Our second pool party was held on August 6 at Sue and Dennis Newsome’s home. There were 7 classmates (Gloria Barshel Buck, LeAnne Graening Jagger, Marilyn Burleigh Oehlers, Sue Harris Newsome, Joyce Brown Guth, Marian Isenhower Crayne and Joan Pfeifer Crunkelton) and Hariette, a friend and co-worker of several classmates. Linda Miller Karcher is recovering from our last pool party but couldn’t join us today because of a previously planned outing with her sisters. Gloria is awaiting another grandchild. She and Linda Hoaglin Broderick are looking forward to their trip to Greece next month. Joyce has been spending a lot of time with Sue Roynon Hartestein as she is seriously ill, and our love and prayers go out to Sue.
We got some questions about Kay Moore Causer. If you’re out there Kay, drop us a note and let us know how you are doing.
The weather was great and we got 2 meals of pizza and snack in before the rain sent us in different directions.
Our next Lunch Bunch will be on Friday, September 25 at 5th Street Pub in Perrysburg. We have visited there several times and never been disappointed by the food. Hope to see you there?

This pool party will definitely be one we will never forget. We were again blessed with beautiful weather although the weatherman had predicted rain the entire week before Thur. Sue has a theory that God grants us beautiful weather each year on our pool day as a thank you for all the years that we as nurses took such good care of so many ill and suffering people. When you contemplate that it certainly includes a LOT of people receiving a LOT of tender loving care.
Eight of us gathered at 11 and had a little swim in the pool before our lunch meal; enough food to feed Toledo. It was back in the pool for the afternoon and to talk enough to solve all the ills of the world. Marilyn was thoroughly enjoying her day out with just the girls. Gloria had been to the 4th of July concert at the Hayes Presidential Home in Fremont and also played with her new polka band at the Hayes Center the night before our pool party. LeAnne has had her usual stream of visitors to her lake home so is keeping busy providing meals and lodging. Joanie recently spent an afternoon with Dick Pirwitz enjoying his pool. We also had a birthday cake for Joanie's 80th birthday.
While we were getting the food out again for supper Linda K. tripped and fell onto a chair injuring her rib area. After some convincing she allowed us to drive her car to meet her daughter who transported her to Findlay hosp. There it was determined that she had fractured 6 ribs. She remained there overnight but is now home recuperating. 6 weeks of rest. Needless to say we were all just devastated. All our best wishes for fast healing and minimal pain go out to her in these days ahead.
Our next get together is our second pool party on Thurs., August 6th at 11. We will order pizza but anyone is free to bring snacks or desserts.
We are still in the talking stages about a trip to Michigan in October. We just have 4 interested right now but if any of you who are farther away are interested please let us know.

I apologize for taking nearly a week to send out news of our last lunch bunch. That delay does not in any way indicate how much we enjoyed our meals or our time together. We all look forward to catching up with each other and we never run out of news or discussions. Eight of us met at Applebees in Northwood. It seemed most of the group chose salads and half sandwiches but the nutritious streaks went out the window when everyone ordered Brownie Bites for dessert.
We were overjoyed to have Carol K .join us again. It has been a long time since she and we could coordinate her dialysis days, health issues, etc She and Rich are really enjoying their move to a condo and loving life on one floor. She is hoping to dine with us again soon. Sue N. Is back to her annual back breaking, crazylady job of spreading hundreds of bags of mulch around her beautiful yard and pool. This year she did accept some help from a neighbor who also happens to be a relative. Denny and Sue's grandson is a very talented 9 year old wrestler who suffered a broken elbow a few months ago. He, of course, had been "out of commission" until recently when he had been given the all clear to start with an Illinois team. On his match last week he broke his arm in the same place and will have to have another surgery. Such a disappointment to not only Jack but the entire family.
Gloria had to do double duty on lunch day as she was to play with her Genoa American Legion Band. Each time the Honor Flight takes veterans to Washington DC from Toledo for a day they return to the airport in the evening to a large contingency of family, friends, signs, flags, and the band playing patriotic songs. Because the plane is often delayed the band often ends up playing until 11pm or later. Such dedication and a wonderful civic contribution.
Our next lunch is on Thurs., May 7th, at The Old Bag of Nails at the site of the old Sports Arena (615 Riverside Dr.) . For those of you who like to plan ahead we have been invited back again to the Newsom's pool for Thurs., July 9th. You really don't want to miss that fun day!

The weather cooperated for 9 of us to meet at Rick’s Diner last Wed. Linda B. was able to make it down from the snowy north despite a couple feet of snow there. She is spending a few days in Ohio and then will travel on to the sunny state of Arizona to visit her son. Temps there have been reported up to 100 degrees. Talk about a shock to the system! While in Mich. she was able to watch her grandson’s hockey team win the championship for the season.
Laurie was able to make it this month also. In the weekend since lunch her town of Defiance had a severe thunderstorm in which they had quarter size hail. Laurie said it shredded the cloth on her deck table and cause dents to her
car.
We have gotten notice from Carol Kwiatkowski that she and Dick have moved to condo living. Their home sold in just 6 days. Their new address is : 10732 S. Lakes Dr. Perrysburg, Ohio 43551.
Here’s some nostalgia for you. Jerry and Joyce went to see the Lettermen in Tiffin 2 weeks ago. They were so good and certainly brought back lots of memories. One of the singers is from the original group.
Gloria is keeping as busy as ever with occasional babysitting of her great grandsons and activities with her bands and church. She was serving food for church the evening of our lunch.
Although we had decided on April 10 for our next lunch the date has been CHANGED to TUES., APRIL 14th . The place is still the same, Applebees on Curtice Rd. which is near Bay Park Hospital. We also set a date for our May lunch. We will meet on Thurs., May 7th, at Old Bag of Nails which is at the site of the old sports arena. Sure would love to see some new people join us. We’re hoping by the May date that it may be nice enough for us to eat outdoors.

Jim, March 13, 2026 lunch bunch
It seems I always start my monthly lunch report to you with a mention of the weather, but it seems Mother Nature routinely picks those days to act up here in Ohio. Last Friday she decided to bless us with 50-60 mph winds. But…. we bold ole broads showed her! Nine of us and Denny buttoned up, put on our bonnets, and braved the elements to meet at Bar Louie’s in Levis Commons. Laurie got caught in backed up traffic on her ride in and unfortunately had to give up and go back to Defiance. Semis were overturned and trees were down in various areas but the rest of us made the trip both ways unscathed. The food was great as was the conversation.
Marian shared a note she had received from Dianna (Brien) Hill. Our sympathies go out to her and her family as she reports that her husband, Jim passed away a couple months ago. Dianna herself continues to fight a chronic cancer diagnosis. Marian also shared pictures of her new great nephew, Maximilian, with us. He weighed in at 9 lb 6 oz. He lives in Fla. so auntie will have to wait awhile for snuggling.
Barb joined us walking normally without any aids following her hip replacement. She has had a great post op period and is feeling good. LeAnne is enjoying the time back home after trips to Cinci, Florida, and Columbus. Sue and Denny followed the OSU vs. U of M basketball game on Denny’s phone during our after lunch. Mich. took the win.Marilyn’s Ken did not come with her today as she has found a wonderful memory care unit where he can stay for short visits if she has appts., lunches, etc. The beautiful part of it is that Ken feels that he is a volunteer at this facility and is enjoying it each time he goes. Makes it so much easier for Marilyn in so many ways. Gloria is not going to make our next lunch as she is going on an Alaskan trip with 3 cousins.
We had some interesting discussions about the cost of home repairs these days but we were unable to solve any of those issues. We may have to take that up again at the next lunch which will be Wed., March 25th at Ricks Diner on Monroe St. Linda B. is going to be down from Mich. and plans to join us. Would love to see some other new faces there also. Joyce

Lately it seems like Mother Nature makes us wonder at the last minute whether we are going to be able to meet our friends at lunch or not. This month it was fog; but we ignored her and 7 of us with 2 husbands made it safely to Danny's Cafe in Rossford. Barb was not able to join us as she had a hair appt. but she did have her hip replacement since our last meeting and is doing great. She had so many problems and pain pre op that her post op course has been a relief for her. Only took one pain pill and then switched to Tylenol. What a warrior! LeAnne also could not be with us as she and Charlie were on their way to Florida for a good friend's daughter's wedding. Sadly LeAnne's brother, Alan, passed away on January 30 and his memorial service had also had a decades long battle with muscular dystrophy. LeAnne gave a eulogy at his service and was pleased that all of her family could be there. Our hearts go out to her and Charlie. Alan was very close to Charlie too and he loved visits to their lakefront home. We have also received word via Rae McClow that our classmate, Karen Steinmetz Christian, passed away on Jan. 15th. Karen had been in poor health for several years. She had joined us several years ago when a few of us vacationed in Charleston. Her obituary can be found by going to Karen Christian obituary Dalton Georgia. A memorial will be sent from the THSN Class of 1967 for the Lupus Foundation of America, but because we have sufficient funds we are not asking for any donations from any of you
I shared a letter I had received from Marlene Tusing with those at lunch. She had included pictures of her family. Really love to hear from you who can't join us.
Laurie was able to make it to lunch. She continues to have problems with shoulder pain but is trying hard to avoid any further surgery. Sue and Denny had their bags packed and were leaving from lunch on a 5 hour drive to Chicago to celebrate their granddaughter's 11th birthday. Emmy also had swimming meets over the weekend and did very well in her events. There are some really strong athletic genes in that family. Her brother is the 9 year old wrestler.
Just as we thought spring might be headed our way with some 50 degree weather last week we had our wake up call over the weekend. Temps back in the 30s and a couple inches of snow. Oh how we love Ohio! Hopefully we'll have warmer, sunnier days by Friday, March 13th, when we meet at Bar Louie's in Levis Commons at noon. Can you join us? It's a fun time.
