Press Release
June 9, 2026 – 11:00am

On Saturday, June 6, 2026, at approximately 10:30 p.m., officers with the Hiltonia Police Department and deputies with the Screven County Sheriff’s Office were in Hiltonia monitoring a large crowd gathered for a block party. During the event, law enforcement observed a vehicle traveling down the street with multiple individuals riding on top of it.

Officers issued lawful commands for the individuals to get off the vehicle; however, those commands were disregarded. A traffic stop was then initiated. During the stop, several individuals fled from the vehicle.

One adult male was taken into custody a short time later inside a nearby residence. A second male was also observed fleeing from the traffic stop. When officers attempted to take him into custody, a female—later identified as his mother—physically intervened by positioning herself between law enforcement and the male and actively obstructing officers from making the arrest.

The female was subsequently placed under arrest. While officers were attempting to handcuff her, she continued to resist and attempted to pull away. Officers used a control technique, which took both to the ground. As officers continued their efforts to take her into custody, a large and increasingly aggressive crowd gathered around them, and several items of equipment were removed from an officer’s duty belt.

In response, law enforcement utilized a show of force to disperse the crowd and regain control of the scene. The female was ultimately taken into custody, and both individuals were transported to the Screven County Jail.

The following video is body cam video from this incident.
