FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Screven County, Georgia — August 26, 2026 — At approximately 3:18 p.m. today, the Sylvania Police Department, Screven County Sheriff’s Office and Screven County School System were notified of a reported threat of violence involving a Screven County High School student. The information was initially received through 911 dispatch after the student allegedly posted a threat on social media, along with information indicating a potential threat near the front entrance of the school.

School administrators and local law enforcement immediately responded to Screven County High School, and established school safety procedures were implemented to protect students and staff. Upon further investigation, it was quickly determined that the student was not on the school campus and was believed to have boarded a school bus. School administrators and law enforcement officers worked to locate and intercept the student; however, the student had already been dropped off at home. After confirming that there was no active threat at Screven County High School or any other Screven County School System campus, normal school operations resumed.

The student allegedly responsible for making the threat has been taken into custody by law enforcement. The Screven County Sheriff’s Office, in coordination with school administrators are investigating the incident.

The safety of students, faculty, and staff remains our highest priority.
