This weekend firemen from symsonia participated in firefighter survival and rescue training.

We made some new friends yesterday!

Our chief traveled to Pennsylvania to pickup a donation of 1300ft+ of 5 inch supply hose and various hand tools.

We couldn't thank Whitehall Fire Company, Station 301 enough for their donation. We also want to thank The FD Relief Mission of Western PA for sharing this opportunity.

The hose will be used to upgrade our supply lines on our primary engine to a larger size for better water flow. The tools will be put into service on our engine as some we did not already have.

Today we had a little going away celebration for two of our volunteers that are going to the police academy. We wish FF Shomari Reed and Assistant Chief Adam Glisson the best of luck in the academy and cant wait to welcome them back after graduation.

Also a special thank you to all those that made this celebration possible.

🚒 FIRE SAFETY WEEK — DAY 3 🚒

🏠 Today’s topic: Have an escape plan!
If a fire happens in your home, does everyone know how to get out and where to meet? Take time today to make a plan together—and practice it!
✅ Know two ways out of every room, if possible.
✅ Keep doors, windows, and escape routes clear.
✅ Choose an outside meeting place a safe distance from your home, such as a tree or mailbox.
✅ Plan who will help young children or anyone who needs assistance.
✅ Practice your escape plan at least twice a year, during both the day and night.
🚨 When the smoke alarm sounds, get out and stay out! Never go back inside for belongings or pets. Call 911 once you are safely outside, and tell firefighters if anyone is missing.
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Tonight’s family challenge: Walk through your home, identify your exits, and choose your meeting spot. Make sure everyone knows the plan!

SYMSONIA FIRE DEPARTMENT – JUNIOR FIREFIGHTER PROGRAM

Are you 15 to 17 and interested in the fire service? Symsonia Fire Department's Junior Firefighter Program lets local youth learn about firefighting, serve their community and train alongside our members. The program follows the guidelines set by the Kentucky Fire Commission.

WHO CAN JOIN
• Youth ages 15, 16 and 17
• Must be a high school graduate (or equivalent), or enrolled in public, private or home school in good standing
• Must keep at least a "C" average in all classes
• A parent or guardian must sign a consent form

WHAT JUNIOR FIREFIGHTERS LEARN
Juniors take classroom and hands-on training, all closely supervised, in subjects such as:
• Fire safety and fire behavior
• Personal protective equipment (PPE)
• Hose, nozzles and water supply
• Ropes, knots and ladders
• Forcible entry and ventilation
• CPR/AED and first aid
• Fire prevention and public education
• Firefighter survival and rescue
SAFETY COMES FIRST
Juniors never enter dangerous areas such as burning buildings or hazardous atmospheres. They do not climb ladders on emergency scenes, drive fire apparatus, direct traffic or respond in their personal vehicles. They also don't take part in activities during school hours unless both the school and the department approve.

WHY JOIN?
• Earn firefighter training hours recorded with the state through KyFIRES
• Build leadership, teamwork and discipline
• Get a head start on a career or volunteer role in the fire service. At 18, juniors can apply to become adult members.
• Give back to Symsonia and the surrounding community
