In his statement marking the 3rd anniversary of the October 7th terrorist attack on Israel, the first anniversary in which all the hostages are finally home or buried, Mayor Mamdani dashed off four sentences acknowledging the tragedy of that day, without ever mentioning that the targets were Jewish, before pivoting back to his preferred narrative, spending the bulk of his remarks on the events that transpired afterwards. Let us be clear Mr Mayor: it does not honor the dead to pit them in a contest against each other. It is shameful. Today Jewish New Yorkers across the 5 boroughs walked through metal detectors to drop off our children at preschool, thanked the police officers posted outside our synagogues for keeping us safe, tucked in our Jewish stars on the subway, and felt the gut punch of grief remembering the 1,200 innocent people who were slaughtered in their homes, in front of their families, and dancing at a music festival just because they were Jewish.
The Mayor’s role is to bring people together for the good of all New Yorkers, and he continues to fall short of that goal.
None of this is normal and we refuse to accept it.

Three years, and our hearts are still broken. We remember every life taken on October 7th, 2023. We carry their names, their light, and their stories with us, today and always. May their memories be a blessing.

We also hold close the families who lost loved ones, the survivors, the former hostages and their families, and all who still carry the weight of that day. May they find strength, comfort, and healing.

🌮🍂 Fiesta in the Sukkah! 🍂🌮

JCRC-LI, in partnership with the Friedberg JCC and the Long Beach Latino Civic Association, was delighted to host Fiesta in the Sukkah!

More than 120 community members joined us at the JCC to celebrate Sukkot and Hispanic Heritage Month together. It was an evening filled with wonderful camaraderie, delicious food, laughter, and plenty of smiles!

We are so grateful to everyone who helped make this special celebration of community and connection such a success.

Fun in the Sukkah! 🌿

JCRC-LI and AJC Long Island were delighted to join Town of Oyster Bay Supervisor Joe Saladino and Receiver of Taxes Jeff Pravato as Midway Jewish Center’s Rabbi Joel Levenson welcomed us into the synagogue’s Sukkah. It was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate Sukkot together and strengthen our connections with our community partners.

And in Greenvale, JCRC-LI shook the lulav with the help of LIRAC! A special thank you to Rabbi Michael Stanger and Rabbi Jason Fruithandler helping us and the community celebrate this beautiful holiday.

Sukkot is a wonderful reminder of the joy of community, friendship, and coming together. Chag Sameach! 🌿🍋
