Mending and hemming allows people to not only refuse clothing that has worn through, but also allows people to personalize and fit their clothes to themselves and their specific needs. We hope to spread these and build up our community with you!

Bring you clothes that need mending or hemming, or if you don't have any, come grab some of the items we need to repair for our free store and learn about how to repair what we can! We'll have people around to help teach you both the small basics of mending small holes, replacing buttons, and other such things, as well as slightly larger things like hemming items, altering waists and optionally adding panels for a re-styling of an item!

Mending, hemming, and hawing! have long been a way for people to come together building and pass on trades. These have been places of discussion and where people can support each other in taking care of what they already have.

We will have some supplies for folks to use, including sewing needles, thread, some fabric scraps, embroidery thread, hoops and possibly a sewing machine. We do ask that if you have more specialized tools/supplies that you're willing to bring to share, please do. We'd greatly appreciate it as all supplies are currently member donated. (See second slide for details on items wanted.)

Join us in building community, reusing what we can, and embracing individual expression by learning more about mending and hemming on July 26th from 12-2! We hope to see you there!

Last week we posted about a comrade that needed assistance making rent by the 3rd of this month. Not only did everyone show what community looks like by supporting our comrade, but y'all made it happen in just 5 days!! By July 1st, we had raised $1,085! All proceeds have been sent directly to the comrade in need. They will, unfortunately, be out of work for another two weeks while they continue to heal, so that extra will be helpful to cover things like food in the interim.

We (and our comrade) want to thank you from the bottom of our red little hearts. THIS is what looks like in action. THIS is what being a looks like. THIS is in action ❤️

During this heatwave, we need to come together as a community and make sure that no one is left to needlessly suffer. We know that not everyone will have the resources available to use all of these tips, but we tried to come up with the best list that we could. Days like the ones we're seeing this week are when the most vulnerable and forgotten amongst us (elderly, disabled, chronically ill, unhoused, low income) suffer the most.

If you see someone struggling, give them a hand. Everyone needs cool drinks, cool cloths to wipe down with, shade and a place to get out of the heat. Can you make any of that happen for someone? Can you give them bus fare to get to the nearest cooling center? What about getting them a couple bottles of water?

Remember folks, it's easier to be kind in this world than it is to deal with the consequences of being cruel. We choose to lead with kindness; do you? ❤️

Syracuse's Citizen Review Board has recently put out a call to action.

The Citizen Review Board is an organization created to allow for citizens to have a voice in the ways their community is policed. It is an organization that originally was made to investigate and review complaints of police misconduct, as well as recommend courses of action and changes to the procedures and policy of policing. While not the full extent of addressing policing inequalities, this group is an important part of protecting our communities and assuring that there are non-police voices involved in responding to potential police misconduct.

A recent court case took away the ability of CRB's to investigate police misconduct. This harms the ability of the CRB to effectively respond to and engage with police misconduct, and this means it puts our most vulnerable populations, especially those who are BIPOC, at further risk.
Not only does this create risk, without the elimination of the board by the city in response to this regulation, it means that the city of Syracuse is still able to claim the existence of a group chat address the concerns of the community without allowing for those voices to e informed or empowered.
In response, the Syracuse Citizen Review Board has requested people to take action by attending their monthly meetings, the next of which is July 7th at 5:30PM at Syracuse's Common Council Chambers in City Hall. They have also requested people reach out to both local and state representatives to request their support in the creation of city legislature directly addressing this issue and allowing for the investigation of misconduct and the recommendations that will follow.

Please join us in taking action today, and check out the Syracuse Citizen Review Board's website and social media for further information on this issue and their ongoing work.
