As summer winds down and back-to-school routines pick up, many older adults in Syracuse still face challenges that make everyday life harder.

For seniors and disabled adults who are homebound, limited mobility, health concerns, or financial hardship can make it difficult to access nutritious meals, shop for groceries, prepare food, and stay connected.

At Meals on Wheels of Syracuse, we deliver more than meals. Our nutritious hot and cold meal delivery service, along with daily wellness checks, provides nourishment, meaningful connection, and peace of mind for the people we serve and their caregivers.

Together, we can help older adults remain healthy, safe, and independent at home.

For many homebound seniors and disabled adults in Syracuse, a meal delivery is more than food: it is a moment of connection, care, and reassurance.

Social isolation can have a serious effect on physical and emotional well-being, increasing risks tied to anxiety, depression, heart health, and cognitive decline. Our daily wellness checks and nutritious hot and cold meals help ensure our neighbors are not facing those challenges alone.

SFCU Invests $240,000 in Onondaga County as Community Giving Initiative Tops $570,000

Syracuse, NY (August 10, 2026) — Sidney Federal Credit Union (SFCU) has invested $240,000 in organizations serving Onondaga County through its “Why SFCU? 1 Million Reasons” Community Support Initiative, helping strengthen programs that address food insecurity and other essential community needs. Overall, the initiative has contributed more than $570,000 across SFCU's field of membership through July 31, 2026.

As part of the initiative's current Food & Basic Needs focus, SFCU recently provided support to the CNY Diaper Bank, Meals on Wheels of Syracuse, In My Father's Kitchen, and Salt City Harvest Farm. In addition, SFCU's Cicero and Liverpool branches selected North Area Meals on Wheels, We Rise Above the Streets, and St. Joseph the Worker Food Pantry to receive branch-directed funding, allowing local employees to help direct investments to organizations making a meaningful difference in the communities they serve.

"Why SFCU? 1 Million Reasons is allowing us to make an even greater impact in the communities we call home," said Jim Reynolds, President and CEO of Sidney Federal Credit Union. "Community has always been at the heart of who we are. As our membership continues to grow, so does our ability to support organizations that are changing lives every day. We're grateful for the trust our members place in us, and we're excited to continue investing in partnerships that strengthen our communities for years to come."

Launched in January 2026, “Why SFCU? 1 Million Reasons” is SFCU's commitment to invest $1 million in nonprofits and community organizations addressing critical needs in housing, food and basic needs, education, and transportation throughout the credit union's field of membership.

SFCU is concluding the Food & Basic Needs phase of the initiative and will shift its focus to Education and Transportation in the months ahead. To learn more about “Why SFCU? 1 Million Reasons” and follow its impact throughout the year, visit www.sfcuonline.org/1millionreasons.

Too many seniors and disabled adults in Syracuse face barriers to consistent, nutritious meals. Limited mobility, transportation challenges, rising costs, chronic health conditions, and difficulty preparing food can make hunger and malnutrition a daily concern.

For neighbors who are homebound, the impact goes beyond the dinner table. Reliable nutrition and regular wellness check-ins can support health, safety, and independence at home.

At Meals on Wheels of Syracuse, we deliver hot and frozen meals along with daily connection and care to elderly and disabled residents throughout our community.

You can help us ensure more neighbors have the nourishment and support they need. Donate, volunteer, or share our mission to help us strengthen senior nutrition in Syracuse.
