🔥 IMPORTANT SAFETY REMINDER FROM THE CHIEF’S OFFICE 🔥
As we head into the spring cleaning season, the North Syracuse Fire Department wants to remind all residents about New York State's open burning regulations.

Per NYS law, the open burning of brush is strictly prohibited at all times in any:

🏘️ Hamlet

🏘️ Village (including the Village of North Syracuse)

🏘️ Town

with a total population of 20,000 or more

Let's work together to keep North Syracuse fire-safe this season!

Every year there are hundreds of wildfires across New York State. The single largest cause of these spring wildfires is open burning of brush and debris.

🐰 Hopping into Your Feed!
The North Syracuse Fire Department wants to wish everyone a very Happy (and safe) Easter!

We know the kids are excited about the egg hunt, but we have a few "pro-tips" to keep your holiday from becoming an unexpected visit from us:

The "Slow & Steady" Stove: If you’re cooking a massive ham, remember that "smoked" is a flavor, not a kitchen aesthetic. Keep an eye on the oven! 🍖

Easter Egg Hazards: If you’re hiding real eggs, please remember where you put them. We can handle fire, but finding a three-week-old hard-boiled egg in the sofa cushions is a level of biohazard even we aren’t prepared for. 🤢

Candle Caution: Keep those festive candles away from curtains, decorations, and fluffy bunny tails. 🕯️

Have a wonderful day, North Syracuse! May your baskets be full, your chocolate be solid, and your smoke detectors stay silent.

🚒🇺🇸 Honoring 100 Years of Service and Life 🇺🇸🚒

On Thursday, the North Syracuse Fire Department was honored to participate in a special “Salute” celebrating local centenarian, Mr. Lyle Ackerman, who turns 100 years young today, April 3rd! 🎉

This meaningful event was organized by Arlene Stewart, Salute Captain with Honor Flight Syracuse, and brought together members of the community to recognize an incredible life of service.

Those participating in the salute included:
• Patty Smarzo – Honor Flight Volunteer
• Arlene Stewart – Salute Captain
• Scott Cox – Veterans Advocate
• Kurt Noll – Vietnam Veteran
• Patrick Brennan – Chief of Fire
• Several North Syracuse Fire Department firefighters

Mr. Ackerman, a proud Boston Red Sox fan, served our country as a Radioman and trainer on PBY aircraft during World War II. He held the rank of Petty Officer 3rd Class at the U.S. Naval Air Station in Jacksonville, Florida, from March 25, 1944 to June 15, 1946. His skill and dedication supported vital naval aviation operations during the war.

We are grateful for his service and honored to help celebrate this incredible milestone. Happy 100th Birthday, Mr. Ackerman!
