Officer Nye and K9 Bomber have successfully completed a 10 week Patrol and Tracking School and are now ready to hit the streets.

Throughout the course, K9 Bomber trained in obedience, tracking, building searches, apprehension work, and a wide range of additional skills essential to patrol operations.

Officer Nye chose the name “Bomber” in honor of Detective William "Bomber" Lashomb, who passed away in 2020. This naming serves as one of several ways the department continues to honor and keep Detective Lashomb’s memory present.

K9 Bomber we are confident you will honor the name well. Congrats to Bomber and Officer Nye!

Behind every successful community event is a team working hard long before the event begins.

Meet Britney and Suehaley, the Syracuse Police Department’s Special Events Team. From coordinating logistics to supporting officers and community members at events throughout the city, these two help make it all happen.

We recently sat down with Britney and Suehaley to talk about their roles, what they enjoy most about the job, and the work that goes into serving our community behind the scenes.

Thank you both for everything you do for SPD and the City of Syracuse!

On Friday, we proudly graduated new recruits from the Syracuse Regional Police Academy. After six months of intense training, these new Syracuse Police Officers are ready to hit the streets and serve our community.

Congratulations to all members of Class #30 on a job well done. Remember, the badge is not just a symbol of authority. It is a promise to serve others before yourself.

Yesterday, members of the Syracuse Police Department took part in the “Spring It On” event with our neighbors at Faith Heritage School.

Students had the opportunity to explore a patrol car and the SWAT Rescue Vehicle, try on police gear, and engage with the men and women behind the badge.

It was a perfect day filled with fun games, learning, and meaningful connections with our community.

Thank you to everyone at Faith Heritage for allowing us to be part of such a great event!

For members of law enforcement, a “Signal 94” is more than just a radio transmission. It is an officer’s final radio call, marking the end of a career dedicated to service, and commitment to the community.

After an incredible career of service to the Syracuse community, Officer Darrin Ettinger has officially retired from the Syracuse Police Department.

Those who have had the privilege of working alongside him know he is the kind of officer every police department hopes to have. He is respected by his fellow officers, and trusted by the community.

Officer Ettinger represents the very best of policing. Not because of one moment or one accomplishment, but because of the consistency with which he showed up for this city, his fellow officers, and the people who needed him most.

Yesterday in front of the old PSB a massive crowd gathered to honor Officer Ettinger as his final radio call, was read aloud over the air. It was a powerful and emotional moment.

The legacy he leaves behind will continue through the officers he mentored, the lives he touched, and the example he set throughout his career.

Thank you, Darrin, for your years of sacrifice, leadership, friendship, and service to the City of Syracuse. Enjoy your retirement. You have more than earned it!

During National Police Week, Officer Containa Black was honored by the staff and students at ITC School for her dedication and commitment to keeping their school community safe.

Principal Maddox and her team took the time to recognize Officer Black for the positive impact she makes each day through her compassion, and presence within the school.

School Resource Officers play an important role in building relationships, mentoring students, and helping create a safe environment where students and staff can thrive.

We are grateful to Principal Maddox, the ITC staff, and students for showing their appreciation and recognizing the work Officer Black does for the community.
