Thanks to the leadership of courageous women – many from right here in Central New York – the 19th Amendment to the Constitution was ratified, guaranteeing women’s suffrage. Always treasure your right to vote because so many fought so hard to protect it.

Vacant structure fires have so much in common! From tax delinquency to code violations to water arrears, we can identify likely fire candidates and intervene early to prevent fires from happening. I have a plan to do it and urge the City to pursue it

Mark Cass was an angel in our community and I am devastated to learn of his passing. He believed in second chances and gave so many New Americans the ability to build good lives in Syracuse. I will miss the long talks, the storytelling, and the quiet ways he would help others. You made our city and our world a better place, Mark. Rest easy, friend.

Another day, another vacant building fire. These fires are costly, dangerous, and have long term consequences. That’s why I’ve laid out a plan for how the City can reduce the number of vacant buildings that go up in flames.

The fire was reported at about 5:55 p.m. Sunday.

Excellent work by Attorney General Letitia James. Just remember: slumlords like William D’Angelo can still evict tenants without a reason and raise rents as high as he wants for these apartments because the City of Syracuse failed to adopt Good Cause Eviction. We need to get this law on the books to give tenants the strongest protections possible.

William D'Angelo agreed in 2024 to fix lead paint problems at 22 properties he owns in the city.
