Month-to-month rainfall amounts were highly variable with June being the wettest month for South Bend and August being the wettest month for Fort Wayne. Overall though, both locations had a wetter than normal summer overall for the first time since 2021.

August was seasonable with tolerable humidity. Rainfall was highly variable from north to south across the area. Many locations in northern and central Indiana and Ohio experienced historic flooding and received 200-300%+ of their typical rainfall for the month!

A heat advisory continues through Wednesday evening, with heat indices nearing 100 degrees Wed afternoon. There is a marginal risk for strong to severe storms early this evening, and then again late Wed afternoon and evening, mainly in MI/NW OH or along/north of I 80-90. Lows tonight in the 70s, highs Wed in the low-mid 90s.

What a difference a year can make! From a near record dry August in 2025 and developing drought to a near record wet August this year, Fort Wayne has experienced two very different extremes recently. In fact, 6.5 times more rain fell this August compared to last year!

There were no 90°+ days in August for Fort Wayne or South Bend, however, this does not mean it can’t happen in September...

There were no 90°+ days in August for Fort Wayne or South Bend, however, this does not mean it can’t happen in September! Looking at the past 30 years, during years where there were no 90°+ days in August, there is still a medium to high likelihood of multiple days in the 90s in September.
