We split operations to handle both fires. Both fires are out and we have returned back to the station. Big thanks to the farmers that stopped to assist us in anyway they could!

🔥Wildfire Situation Update - April 7, 2024 🔥
Today's fire weather will be similar to what was experienced yesterday. Any wildfires that are ongoing will need to be monitored closely for the potential for additional fire spread. Wind gusts are expected to exceed 55 mph especially in the northwest region of the state. Combined with low humidity, conditions for rapid fire growth are in place for much of Kansas this afternoon.

KFS, local, state and federal partners will be positioned across the state to help with ongoing fires and any initial attack. Aviation will fly if winds allow. Please don't fly your drones in or around wildfires. If you fly, our aviation will be grounded! Thank you to all the firefighters that are safely engaging these wildfires to keep Kansans safe!

Friday and Saturday will see low relative humidities (10-15%) and high winds (30-45 mph winds with up to 60 mph gusts). As a result of these dangerous conditions, there is a Red Flag Warning for Friday and both a High Wind Watch and Fire Weather Watch Saturday.

A heads up that we are looking at a high fire danger day Sunday. Warm temperatures, strong winds, and low relative humidity will most likely set the stage for an active fire danger that day.
