Tabernacle Rescue Squad

Tabernacle Rescue Squad Founded in 1953, the Tabernacle Rescue Squad has served the residents our communities of Tabernacle & Shamong for over 70 years.

This all volunteer squad proudly serves the residents of Tabernacle & Shamong Townships covering almost 95 square miles in the heart of the Pinelands National Reserve.

Today, members of the Tabernacle Rescue Squad, along with the Woodland Fire & EMS, Tabernacle Fire Department and Good Will Fire Company, were dispatched to Woodland Township for the report of a horse that was down and unable to get back up. Rescue 4399 and our duty ambulance responded with our specialized large animal rescue equipment and trained personnel to assist.

Working together with crews on scene, and utilizing a backhoe provided by Woodland Township, responders were able to safely lift and assist the horse back onto its feet. We are happy to report that after evaluation by the owner’s veterinarian, the horse was found to be in good health and was walking around before crews cleared the scene.

Incidents involving large animals present unique challenges and require specialized training, equipment, and coordinated teamwork to ensure the safety of both the animal and responders. Tabernacle Rescue Squad is fortunate to have several members specifically trained in Large Animal Emergency Rescue, along with specialized rescue equipment designed for these types of incidents.

As calls for specialized rescue services continue to grow, we are actively looking to expand our large animal rescue capabilities with additional equipment that would further improve safety and efficiency during these incidents. Community donations help us continue providing these highly specialized rescue services to our region.

We would like to thank all agencies involved for their teamwork and professionalism, as well as Woodland Township for their assistance on scene.

In addition to attending Remembrances in both Tabernacle & Indian Mills our members have spent this Memorial Day Weekend in service. On Saturday night that included this rescue on Shamong. Beyond our staffed DC ambulance, our crews responded with multiple additional ambulances and our off road units to affect positive patient outcomes for this group of kayakers. We appreciate of our mutual aid partners who also responded. This is what care looks like in the two Pinelands communities we serve.

As we wrap up EMS Week 2026, we wanted to share a moment that truly reflects what this profession is all about.

Recently, a patient involved in a serious motor vehicle accident stopped by one of our meetings to personally thank the members who responded that night. Every member pictured was there during that incident. While not all were directly involved in his patient care, each played an important role — assisting with other patients, supporting operations on scene, and helping ensure the best possible outcome during a challenging call.

EMS is never about one person. It takes an entire team working together behind the scenes and on the front lines to care for our community when it matters most.

Moments like this remind us why we do what we do. The calls, the training, the long nights, and the teamwork all come down to helping people through some of the hardest moments of their lives.

To our members, families, fellow responders, and the communities we serve — thank you for your continued support and trust.

Happy EMS Week 2026 from all of us at Tabernacle Rescue Squad.

For over 70 years, the Tabernacle Rescue Squad has proudly served our community with dedication, compassion, and commitment.

What began in 1953 as a small group of volunteers answering the call for help has grown into a strong legacy of emergency medical care, rescue services, and community support. Through every generation, one thing has remained constant — our mission to serve those in need.

As we celebrate EMS Week, we honor the members who came before us, those who continue to serve today, and the future generations who will carry this tradition forward.

Thank you to our members, families, supporters, and community for standing beside us throughout the years. Your support makes our mission possible.

Then. Now. Always.

EMS Week is not only about recognizing the emergency calls we respond to, but also about recognizing the commitment our members make to the communities we proudly serve every day.

At Tabernacle Rescue Squad, our members dedicate countless hours outside of emergency response to support community events, provide standby coverage, participate in parades, mentor local youth, and organize programs like Operation Santa and other outreach initiatives throughout the year.

We are also proud to serve as the charter organization for Boy Scout Troop 439, supporting and mentoring the next generation of community leaders through service, teamwork, and leadership development.

Whether standing by at local sporting events, supporting community gatherings, or simply being present at local events, our mission extends far beyond the back of an ambulance.

These moments reflect who we are as an organization — neighbors helping neighbors, committed to making a positive impact both on and off duty.

We are proud of the relationships we have built throughout Shamong, Tabernacle, and the surrounding communities, and we thank everyone for their continued support of our squad and our members.

As part of EMS Week 2026, we are proud to recognize the members of the Tabernacle Rescue Squad Special Operations Division.

Our Special Operations Division is made up of both EMTs and dedicated non-EMS rescue personnel who train year-round to respond to complex and technical emergencies throughout our community and the surrounding region. With extensive training and specialized equipment, our team is ready to respond in situations beyond the traditional ambulance response.

The division specializes in:
• Technical Rescue
• Vehicle Extrication
• Confined Space Rescue
• Water Rescue
• Large Animal Rescue
• Specialized support operations during major incidents and disasters

Our members are also proud to serve as part of the Burlington County Urban Search & Rescue Team (US&R), working alongside other highly trained personnel from across the county to prepare for and respond to large-scale emergencies and technical rescue incidents.

Tabernacle Rescue Squad is also unique in that we are the only EMS-based agency in the region to operate a fully equipped heavy rescue vehicle dedicated to technical rescue operations. Our rescue apparatus carries an extensive cache of specialized rescue equipment designed to support both everyday emergencies and large-scale incidents throughout the Pinelands region.

From rope rescue training and extrication drills to large animal rescue scenarios and disaster response preparedness, our members remain committed to one mission — being ready when our community needs us most.

We are incredibly proud of the men and women who dedicate countless hours to training, response readiness, and service to others.

This EMS Week, we proudly recognize the EMTs of Tabernacle Rescue Squad who provide 24/7 Basic Life Support services to our community.

Whether responding to emergencies in our hometowns, transporting patients to specialized care, working alongside hospital staff, or assisting regional healthcare partners, our crews are committed to delivering compassionate and professional patient care every day.

These photos highlight just a small part of what EMS looks like behind the scenes — long hours, ongoing training, teamwork, and a dedication to being there when our community calls for help.

We would also like to thank our dispatchers, hospital personnel, law enforcement partners, firefighters, flight crews, and neighboring EMS agencies who work alongside us each day to ensure the best possible care for our patients.

To all EMS professionals serving communities across the country, thank you for your dedication and service.

Happy EMS Week 2026.
