8/28 UPDATE: This work has been postponed due to weather. We will provide a new date once it has been set.

Heads up, Spanaway drivers! ⚠️

Paving work is scheduled for Military Road S. on Saturday, Aug. 29, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. The work will take place between Spanaway Loop Road S. and 20th Ave. Ct. S.

The roadway will remain open during the work, but traffic may be delayed. Drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes or avoid the area.

We are just days away from Tacoma Narrows Airport Day!

Join us this Saturday, Aug. 29 to get a closer look at the airport, learn about our airport businesses, see cool aircraft and classic cars, get information on aviation careers, try STEM activities for kids, enjoy good food, and more!

· Gates open at 9 a.m., with a welcome at 9:30 a.m. and activities running from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

This is not an airshow and there will not be any aerobatic demonstrations. You may see increased air traffic, hear additional air traffic noise, and experience busier roads near the airport.

Sewer construction at Keithley Middle School and Washington High School is on schedule to finish by the end of August, before the school year begins. Crews are completing striping of Ainsworth Avenue South and the Keithley and Washington parking lots as well as landscaping and field restoration.

Construction and site restoration will continue through September in the easement on Pacific Lutheran University property.

Tacoma Narrows Airport Day takes flight on Saturday, Aug. 29!

Visitors will have a chance to watch airport activities, try STEM activities for kids, check out aviation displays and booths, learn about aviation careers and airport businesses, enjoy The Hub restaurant and food trucks, and more.

Our next shred event is scheduled for Saturday, August 29th from 10am to 1pm at UP Refuse & Recycling (2815 Rochester Rd W, University Place, WA 98466).

Shred events are a great and sustainable way to dispose of documents containing sensitive information.
- 3 shopping bags per person.
- No metals (staples ok), plastics, batteries, cardboard, or pre-shredded paper.
- No hard plastics, 3-ring binders, x-rays/pictures, and garbage.

Stage 2 Burn Ban is now in effect 🔥

Dry conditions mean stronger restrictions. Pierce County is moving from a Stage 1 to a Stage 2 Burn Ban today as wildfire risk increases.

❌ NOT ALLOWED
• Outdoor burning
• Recreational fires, including fire pits at parks, backyards and camping areas
• Backyard fireplaces

✅ ALLOWED
• Barbecues using gas, wood or charcoal, when used safely on a non-combustible surface

State Route 7 is a vital corridor for our community. WSDOT is leading a project that will improve mobility and safety along this stretch and aligns closely with our Vision Zero goals. Community members are encouraged attend the in-person open house to meet the project team or visit the online open house to review information and leave feedback. Click the post below for more details.

We have a paving project coming up on State Route 7 in Parkland and Spanaway. As part of the project, we’re also looking at Complete Streets improvements for people who walk, bike or roll.

You're invited to join us in person at an open house from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Aug. 19 at Spanaway Middle School. Here, you can speak directly with the project team.
