Welcome to a new school year! 📚

Students, I hope you begin this year ready to learn, open to new experiences and confident that you belong. Ask questions, make a new friend and please reach out when you need help. You do not have to navigate every challenge alone.

While we ask students to arrive ready to learn, we must make sure our schools are ready to support them. That responsibility guides my work as vice chair of the Senate Early Learning & K–12 Education Committee and chair of the Senate Higher Education & Workforce Development Committee.

I wrote a letter to students and families about that commitment and my hopes for the year ahead.

The right to vote is fundamental, and Washington has worked hard to build an election system that is secure, accessible, and trusted by voters. 🗳️

I stand with WA Secretary of State Steve Hobbs as he works to protect our state’s vote-by-mail system and ensure Washingtonians can continue participating in our democracy with confidence.

Protecting our elections means supporting the dedicated state and local election workers who administer them, defending access to the ballot, and making sure every eligible voter has the opportunity to make their voice heard.

I’m grateful for Secretary Hobbs’ leadership and will continue supporting the work to keep Washington’s elections safe, secure, and accessible in the state Senate.

Always a great time at Cheney Stadium, especially when we get to Paint the Park Purple! 💜⚾️

I loved joining fellow Huskies and community members to celebrate UW Tacoma while supporting scholarships that help more students pursue their education. Events like this are a fun reminder of how deeply our colleges and universities are connected to the communities they serve.

And it was wonderful to catch up with former Tacoma Mayor Victoria Woodards!

The beginning of a new school year should be filled with excitement and possibility, but I know it can also bring additional costs and stress for families. 🎒

Students are better able to focus on learning when they have the supplies, meals, healthcare and support they need. As vice chair of the Senate Early Learning & K–12 Education Committee, I am working to remove barriers for students through the policies and investments we advance in Olympia.

My office also put together a guide to help families across the 28th Legislative District find resources available right now.

I was honored to record a message for the Be Kind. Do Good. Walk—a nine-day journey from Shoreline to Olympia centered on compassion, connection, and community.

I was honored to spend time with community leaders, including City of DuPont Mayor Ronald J. Frederick and members of the Puyallup Tribe of Indians Tribal Council at this year's Canoe Journey celebration in DuPont. 🫶🏾

A special thank you to Mayor Frederick for the warm welcome — and for the memorable ATV ride! It was a wonderful opportunity to connect, share conversations, and celebrate alongside the community.

Canoe Journey is a powerful reminder of the importance of honoring Tribal traditions, strengthening relationships, and celebrating the cultures that have shaped this region since time immemorial.

It is a true privilege to represent and serve the City of DuPont in the state Senate. I'm grateful for the strong partnerships we've built and for every opportunity to work alongside local leaders, Tribal governments, and community members to support this incredible community. ✨

This breaks my heart. 💔

As a two-time graduate of the University of Puget Sound, I know firsthand the value of the education and community our private nonprofit colleges provide. And as chair of the Senate Higher Education & Workforce Development Committee, I’m deeply concerned for students across Washington who are facing difficult decisions because of changes to state financial aid.

Students should not have to wonder whether they can afford to finish the degree they have worked so hard toward. That’s why I’ve continued pushing to restore these investments and protect pathways to higher education for students at UPS and private nonprofit institutions across our state.

To every student impacted: I see you, I hear you, and I will continue standing with you and fighting for the support you deserve. 💛

Seeing the future home of Nourish Pierce County made one thing clear: this is so much more than a food bank. 💜

In partnership with Senator Yasmin Trudeau, I was able to help secure $5 million in the state capital budget for this transformational project, which will expand access to nutritious food while creating a welcoming space where families can connect with resources in a setting that honors dignity and respect.

The need is real. Last year alone, Nourish served more than 65,000 people across Pierce County through its network of brick-and-mortar and mobile food banks, including families in Lakewood and at Joint Base Lewis-McChord.

Thank you to the incredible Nourish team for the tour and for everything you do to fight food insecurity in our community. I cannot wait to see this vision become a reality. ✨
