Spring is here! There’s no better way to get in the blooming mood than by witnessing the magic of newly planted trees! Join us for our first walk of the spring. During our time together, we will walk Hilltop neighborhood streets to get to know the trees that Tacoma Tree Foundation has planted over the past year. Sarah Low will teach us about these young trees and their nearby elders. We’ll consider good tree planting and tree care practices and learn about the many benefits these trees will bring to the Hilltop. As we walk, we’ll consider the importance of supporting access to trees and green spaces in Tacoma. Help us welcome spring and these new trees to our city!

On March 5, DART is retiring, and tMap is ready to take its place. We’re consolidating our mapping tools to make access to City spatial data simpler and easier to use. After 10 years of DART and five years of tMap, it was time for an upgrade to take advantage of newer mapping technology. The new tMap features an updated design, multiple language options, improved mobile viewing, expanded data access, a new basemap, updated imagery, and new tools.
Check it now at tmap.tacoma.gov!

Community members are invited to a virtual informational meeting, on Thursday, Feb. 26th at 6PM, to learn more about the 2026 Amendment and how to provide comments during the Planning Commission public hearing comment period.

As part of the 2026 Amendments, the City is currently considering the following topics for review:

McKinley Pre-annexation Land Use and Zoning. This is a property owner application and one of the first steps towards annexation into the City of Tacoma.

Special Needs Housing. Special Needs Housing means residential uses that include various types of supportive care on site. These amendments are in response to recent changes to state law and a City Council request to update the siting and location for certain types of special needs housing.

Minor Code Amendments. These amendments are typically limited to correcting errors in the Municipal Code, clarifying City standards, addressing code conflicts, and code structure and organization.

Legislative Amendments. This is a package of code changes responding to new state laws that are intended to make it easier to establish new day care facilities, and to allow the use of binding site plans for multi-dwelling residential developments as a method to divide property.
