Jeremy is a devoted single father of five wonderful children who dreamed of providing them with a stable, nurturing home where they could build lasting family memories together.

With the goal of achieving homeownership, Jeremy applied to the Habitat Homeownership Program in August 2025. Although he encountered several obstacles and challenges along the way, his determination, perseverance, and resilience helped him overcome each one.

In July 2026, Jeremy is began an exciting new chapter in his life as a proud new homeowner, making his dream of homeownership a reality for himself and his children. Congratulations on this amazing new chapter Jeremy!! 🏠🔑💙

Did you know that every Habitat home built stays permanently affordable for generations to come?

We create lasting impact with our Ground Lease Model. Habitat owns the land, and the Homeowner owns their house. 🏠 This allows the homeowner 1.5% annual equity in the home and ensures that, if/when the house is sold on the open market, it will be sold to another income-qualified buyer.

Today is Women's Equality Day and we're thinking about why Women Build started in the first place.

In the early 2000s, Marilyn Lewis learned about a program during a Habitat Global Village trip to New Zealand: a build where women lead, women learn, and women show up for other women.

She came home to Tacoma and brought it with her. That was 2001.

Over two decades later, Women Build at Tacoma Pierce County Habitat is still going and still sending the same message it always has: women belong on the build site.

Women belong in trades.

Women belong in the room where decisions about housing and community are made.

Women's Equality Day is a reminder of how far we've come and how much work is still ahead.

Meet Israel, a 65-year-old Air Force veteran who served in the 1980s as a C-141 mechanic at McChord Air Force Base.

He bought his house in Tacoma in 2014, which became the childhood home of his three children.

When the roof began to leak and rot, he applied to Tacoma Habitat’s Aging in Place Program. Tacoma Habitat helped repair his roof and replace the rotting wood.

Thanks to funding from Home Depot Foundation’s Repair Corps grant, Tacoma/Pierce County Habitat for Humanity was able to help Israel get a new roof, including replacing plywood in the eaves which had visible rot.

"I tell God all the time, 'Thank you!’”, says Lillie.

This is Lillie.

She moved to Tacoma in 1973, raising her son on her own while working two jobs and attending school full time. She went on to start a small business in the Hilltop and spent years as a social worker and foster care provider.

Today, Lillie lives with rheumatoid arthritis, and when her cracked walkway caused a fall, she reached out to our Aging in Place program.

Our team built a new walkway—wide enough for a wheelchair if she ever needs one—so she can stay safe in the home she loves.
