This week the pinwheels were put up on our courthouse lawn to bring awareness to national child abuse awareness month.

The most important thing we can do to help children thrive is to support families before they reach a crisis. We as a community can work together to help keep children safe. Spreading the word about child abuse prevention and ensuring that parents have the knowledge, skills and resources they need to care for their children, can help prevent child abuse and neglect.

You can make a difference for a child and family in our own community by becoming a Court Appointed Advocate volunteer. The Child Advocate Program of Pierce County could not thrive without our volunteers and has a goal of expanding our volunteers to 210 by the end of 2021. In case you are missing the sunshine, here is one last flashback to summer…for Advocate Kim Seevers spending time with her husband is good for the soul, just as being an Advocate for the children in our community is good for the soul.

2020 has brought challenges that we never could have imagined! Our community, children and families are facing enormous hardships. Children continue to enter the child welfare system. We’ve had 340 children enter our system and be assigned a GAL or Advocate in 2020. We have added an additional training to bring on more advocates by the end of the year. Virtual training starts November 9th. We need 38 volunteers to sign up to become a Child Advocate!
