On Saturday, West Pierce Fire & Rescue participated in a large-scale emergency response drill at the Lakewood Rail Yard.

The exercise included simulated emergencies and casualties, with volunteers acting as patients to help crews practice law enforcement response, emergency medical treatment and fire department operations.

The drill was a success thanks to the hard work and collaboration of multiple agencies, including Sound Transit, Tacoma Fire Department, Gig Harbor Fire & Medic One, East Pierce Fire & Rescue, Lakewood WA Police Department, South Sound 911 and many more.

Thank you to the organizers who made this exercise possible. Opportunities like this are important, educational and extremely valuable in helping us better serve the community. It's always a pleasure to come together and train as one big team!

Who participated in the Great ShakeOut earthquake drill today?! 🙋‍♀️🌎🫨

West Pierce Fire & Rescue had lots of fun being part of the world’s largest earthquake drill for another year.

According to the Washington Department of Natural Resources, earthquakes occur daily in Washington. In fact, the U.S. Geological Survey recorded a 2.7 magnitude earthquake just this morning six miles from North Bend.

Out of all 50 states, Washington has one of the highest risk of large and damaging earthquakes! It’s imperative you and your family know how to DROP, COVER, and HOLD ON.

If you missed the Great ShakeOut this morning, take a moment to practice. Earthquake preparedness doesn’t end when the drill does.
