Job Carr Cabin Museum JCCM uses Job Carr's story to open the door to Tacoma's history for students and our community. We hope you'll visit us soon.

Job Carr Cabin Museum is housed in a replica of Tacoma's first permanent non-Native residence, on land that traditionally belonged to the Puyallup people. It was built in 2000, near the original site of Carr’s frontier home. Through our interactive living history museum and programming, we educate students and visitors about the people, industries, and events that shaped our neighborhood – and Tac

oma as a whole. We aim to portray an accurate account of Tacoma’s non-Native settlement's history and its effects. If our regular hours don't work with your schedule, call the Cabin to set up a time that will. Admission is FREE, but we do accept donations! As summer's warm weather continues, we're loving these 1908 images from the Tacoma Public Library archives of Tacoma's first indoor public swimming pool. The Nerides Salt Water Baths opened at Point Defiance in May 1906. Admission was 10 cents including rental swim suits. The pool closed in 1932.

As college students begin to come back to school at University of Puget Sound, we thought you might enjoy this look at one of the earlier versions of campus.

The university originally opened in Downtown Tacoma in 1888 with 88 students. it moved to the pictured location at 6th and Sprague in 1903, now the site of Hilltop Heritage Middle School. The school finally settled in its current location in 1924.

Our first apple on the museum's new trees! 🍏

Job Carr planted apples and other fruit trees in Tacoma's North Slope neighborhood. Some of the fruit trees he cultivated are still bearing fruit in Tacoma.⁠ To honor this legacy and celebrate the Museum's 25th anniversary, we planted 6 fruit trees in Old Town Park earlier this year. Each sapling is an investment toward the future and will grow to provide shade, clean air, and many more fruits to share with our community.
